I did it again another project bike!! PICS ADDED!!!!!

Another CL find!

a 1981 Yamaha XS 400 for $300. Pretty good condition. No dents rust or scratches, all original. Even the seat which has no tears. New front tire, decent rear tire, decent chain. Gut parked it last winter in his garage and when it would not start this spring he monkeyed with it and screwed it up a little and drained the battery. So he puts it on CL, not running, for $300.

I went there right after work, cash in hand, and there was already a guy there before me, and one right after I got there. I deferred to the guy in front of the line but when it would not start.

He balked, I pounced. :P

Gave him the $300 as it sat and trailered it home.

Put gas in it, charged the battery, fixed the broken spark plug cable that was the problem, and she started up and runs well. 8)

It will need a tune up, oil change, filters, maybe a chain, some air in the tires, and some TLC but I think I have a winner here!

Some pics when I bought it and brought it home. This is the 'Before'.

After soon to come!

I take the redneck comment as a compliment! I am 'country' even though I was born and raised in NJ and lived in the PRK. As far as 'doctor money' goes, I'm going through a divorce so that says it all. you noticed I bought a $200 bike, not a $20,000 one. I already have one of those. And no, I can't help myself. I have a weird need to fix things and stay busyam even with my 'free' time.

Excellent score! I love those bikes; I had a '79 XS 650S Special II and rode it to death.

I tuned it up changed the oil and oiled the cables, adjusted the chain and aired the tires.

IT RUNS GREAT!! :P

Took it around the neighborhood and checked it out. Small drip from oil filter O ring will have to replace that but otherwise she's good.

80 MPH NO PROBLEM at all on highway. She'd probably bust a ton if given the reigns. Much more powerful than my KZ was...

I'm not gonna want to sell this little gem! 8)

Yes I'll post more pics. On the run now....

Cool bike Doc! Lol, I wondered how long you could go without a project... Looks like an excellent score! I still marvel at how cheap bikes are in the states compared to here. I live in the wrong country...

I believe alot of people think they live in the wrong country.

I am sure cheap bikes exist in Canada. Just need to the right oppurtunity.

I scan CL a couple times a day and I'm ready to POUNCE when I see something worthwhile.

I lucked out on this one. Just rode it 50 miles about 1/2 at 70 on the highway she runs great!

Melissa, Sorry to hear that you are temporarily bikeless but there is an opportunity here! Did your bike go to a good home?

Nice buy and find. I keep looking for a bike like that, I love deals. Most that I look at are not worth the trouble.
