Received FMF Turbine Core 2 today. 1.25" version as that's the size of my head pipe.

Mounting this on a GY5 is going to be FAR more difficult than strapping one on a Zong, I can see that. 8O

After my headpipe, there's a huge coupling for the stock mid-pipe....that necks down to a 1.12" midpipe..(totally restrictive)..that twists and turns, bobs and weaves through the frame, past the shock, to the massive restrictive canon that's welded on the end.

The nice stainless tubing that came with it doesn't even come close to making the path from the head pipe to the FMF. :x

I tossed in the towel after a couple hours of thought and figured I'll just find someone to make a custom bent, 1.25" mid pipe and get it done. No chance. I've been to 4 muffler shops, 3 bike shops and finally stopped at my old Harley Guru who can fab anything. No luck. :(

So....it's either return this FMF for the smaller 1.12" one and restrict the flow by using my tiney stock mid pipe.....or continue on my hunt for someone to custom bend me the larger 1.25" mid pipe....which is my preference. If that's what comes out of the head....that's what it's designed for.

Anyone mounted one of these on a Lifanoid yet?????

it cant be too hard, Ive built two custom pipes myself with a stick welder one header for the trx, and a midpipe for my custom muffler, im about to make another mid pipe out of aluminum also.

I got the idea to mount an FMF Universal Spark Arrestor on my Zong by reading the TW200 forum. Several TW200 owners had successfully mounted the FMF TC2, and I was pretty sure the installation would be fairly simple on my Zong.

I am unfamiliar with the Lifanoid midpipe routing; can you post some photos, LZ?

Here it is. Not as straight a shot as the Zong, for sure.

Now you can see why I don't want to use the tiny stock midpipe. The head pipe is 1 1/4", the midpipe is necked WAY down. We've discussed a little back pressure. The exhaust charge hitting this would come to a screaching halt!

Unfortunately, this is just a 2 dimensional photo. It's a snake.

As you can see, the headpipe swings in toward the center of the bike and down....even with that, it points at a frame member. The mid pipe will have to instantly swing down, right, then a sharp left around the frame.

From the rear view.

From the rear again. If you really squint, you can see the end of the head pipe and the direction it points.

Overall side view. The path is going to be challenging for a novice pipe bender but we'll get it. Like heck if I'm using that stock midpipe.

Should be fun but from what I'm reading, WELL WORTH IT!
Luckily....I got lots of beer in the fridge.... 8)

Have you investigated later model XR200 exhaust systems? They look like a close match to me, and they'll likely be stainless after '95.

OK! OK! I caved, alright!?

After seaching Sacramento and surrounding areas for 1.25" exhaust tubing for Friday and half of this morning, and getting goose eggs,.....I finally decided....for the sake of getting it running, (I'm going to the OHV park in the morning).......I'd run the stock mid pipe like I swore I wouldn't. :x

I didn't get all the pics but after cutting the midpipe off the massive muffler at the weld,.....we played with the big joint at the head pipe. We soldered up the huge gap and then swedged it to taper so it wasn't such a blunt neckdown from the 1.25" to the 1.12" as the gasses passed through.

Then, away we went measuring and bending. Enjoy!

My buddy Roger (he's a professional pipe fitter/commercial refridgeration) torching the pipe in his pipe vise as I waited to bend. Big Dave supervising in the background. He does that well.....but if you have a question on an old Harley....he's the guy to ask. Got all the tricks.

Going at it....

Only used about 3 inches of the stainless pipe it came with. We swedged the 1.12" pipe open to fit like a glove inside the stainless.. Two slits with the Dremel and VIOLA! Clamped right on.

The finished product! WOW! What a difference! Way snappier throttle, sounds GREAT and also....more power across the whole band. Next.....get out the jet drills and make it right. 8)

The FMF TC2 looks great on your bike, LZ! Thank you for documenting your work, and sharing all the great photographs! Indeed, the FMF TC2 sounds great, and I have also noticed more power across the band, in all gears.

WOW! What a massive difference! Took it out today to the OHV park and put on about 30 miles of trails, according to my tick meter. Hills to climb and all the normal off road stuff. WAY more power!
WHOLE NEW BIKE!
Best thing I've done to the GY5....BY FAR! Made the Uni breather and all work together.
Didn't seem to lean but it has to be. Will start the "Jetting Tango" before the week is out. 8)
I most definitely recommend this upgrade......
