Hongdou GY125 question

Here in the UK and only being 17 I have a GY125cc
Now I've noticed that a lot of you go on about lowering the clip one notch/raised the needle. For better performance.
Is this applicable to the 125cc motor?
And is there any pictures or diagrams to show how.
I have a performance Air filter and a bigger jet coming for the bike.
I was told this would improve performance.
Any Help greatly appreciated.

I am on with tidy the bike up (2004 model) at the moment. Just had the rack, Skid Belly Pan and Exhaust heat shield powder coated. And Exhaust blasted and repainted with heat proof paint.

Matty

Hey Matty, welcome aboard!! you sound like you are well on your way to have a great bike. Almost all bikes come out of the factory with the mixture very lean to pass emission laws and most bikes do respond well to moving the clip. So I say take a spark plug reading, move the clip, read the plug again, and just see what the butt dyno says.

Best of luck to ya!

If you plan on installing a bigger jet, you wont need to move the clip. Best indication of a clip reposition needing to be done is if the bike starts hard and wont idle well when cold, but runs fine once warmed up.

OK I have a bigger jet (115) installed and a freeflow airfilter.
Bike is now miss firing.
I don't know if it is just coincidence and the spark plug is dying.
Anyone suggest anything?

What size was the original main jet? You may have gone too big, a 115 seems large for a 125, my 250 has 105 as standard. I would have raised the needle first before going for a bigger jet.

Jonathan.

I have no idea what size the original jet was as it was not marked (which was strange as they normally are).
Maybe the clip has been moved already!
This would make it overfuel!!?!

How do you move the clip (were is the clip) ?
Do you have any pictures or explanations of how to do this?
Where should it be at standard position?

Cheers
Matty

A 115 is WAY too big. The 200 cc's only run a 109 stock. Throw the stock jet back in, move the clip to its lowest position on the needle (= needle in full HIGH position) turn the air screw out 2 1/4 turns from fully closed, and you'll be good to go.

Here is a link showing a needle on a 200. MD goes on to tell about the adjustment.
