The forgotten oil change.

ALL GY6 engines have a gearbox, it matters not if in a scooter, or buggy. The oil change interval for the gearbox is 5000km, though it might be a good idea to do it right at the start (to verify if there is oil in there, and it's quality), and maybe accelerate the first change to 2000-2500km.
Details on this are sketchy at best.

There is a posting here with pictures of the drain-fill plug locations:

and they speak of "120ml" as a quantity of gear oil. Being a bit of a dummy, I looked high, and low, for a spec on this "gear oil", finding only mention in passing in a Tank manual of 90W.

The crap that was in our GY6 gearbox was as thick as molasses and smelled like wood preservative. I drained it for about a day and filled it with Castrol Syntec 75W90 gear oil. I've changed it once since then and it still runs like a top.

BTW, I just filled mine until it came out of the fill hole, much like you'd do with a rear differential.

The Castrol Syntec bottle has a small spout at the top that makes filling very easy.
