Electric Problem 2.0

Ok, gy-200, 2007.

Heres the symptoms:

bike initially starts runs great and has no problems till ive been riding about 30-45 with the brights on **(because about 3 people a month get killed out here in Albuquerque NM being flattened cars).

So if i turn it off it acts like the battery is dead or severely drained and i have to bump start it or kick start it. It will run fine all lights will work fine but the starter will not work again till it cools off.

had battery tested - passed. Since there isn't an alternator what the heck do i check?

Sounds like a starter problem. Is there a possibility that the exhaust pipe is too close? If so, perhaps you could fabricate a heat shield or wrap the pipe (or both).

If those things don't help, seek out a new starter.

Ok, battery had to be charged to get bike to restart after overnight, battery definitely not getting alternator power up. wheres the alternator? Is it replaceable? or is this a coil issue gone bad?

Hi,

What happens after the 30 to 45 minutes? Does it quit running or if you shut it off it will not restart?

If it just quits running I would think it is either the CDI, coil, or spark plug.

If the battery is going dead then it is likely the battery, stator/alternator, or the regulator/rectifier.

Ok you wont believe it. After getting out the multimeter and a alternator tester I traced it down to that little fuse attached to the battery positive cable. The fuse had almost slipped out of the holder but was still barely contacting. However, once i put it back in the fuse holder correctly the battery and starter worked after a brisk ride to charge back up.

Tested all afternoon, starter never failed again. Once again proving that the simplest answer was the solution.

Thx for everyones input it helped me arrive at the solution.
