kickstart stripped
Ok, I stripped out the kickstart on the viva. Too much riding I guess. The lever is stripped but not the engine gear. I'm thinking about just welding it on and calling it a day. Any suggestions?

I would compare to a honda lever. Welding it is a bad idea incase you would need to remove that engine cover later on.

What we did on old brit iron when the kick lever would strip out was drill an 8mm hoole through the kicker, through the shaft, back through the other side of the kicker, and stuff and 8mm bolt and nut through it. That way, remove bolt, remove kicker, in case you have to go under that cover. Works a treat, and if the bolt dies, you can go up to 10mm, etc.
(If you're Murcan, 8mm would be 5/16"-- Don't forget the lock nuts!) --Vince

Thanks for the tip guys. I'll probably try it this weekend. I've been lazy and haven't done anything to it in a while. Been riding the 450 lately.

Another option would be to drill and tap a hole in the kick-start lever where it goes on the shaft and run a pointy-ended set screw in to mark the shaft and then drill it enough for the set screw to hold.
I would suggest something like a 10-32 screw.

well guys, drilling the hole and placing a 8mm bolt in worked great for about 25 kicks. Not too bad actually. Drilling the hole made it too weak and it completely broke off where I drilled it. This weekend I drove to a Motorcycle salvage yard in NM and found a replacement kicker that works perfect. The viva 250pr will work with pretty much any kicker that fits a 16mm diameter. I installed 10 different ones and had no clearance problems. I went with a straight shaft and 8in long. Works great.

We have been field testing them for a few years now. Found most of there weak spots.
Good idea. Allen
