Has anybody made any mods to this?

Was wondering if anyone has modified the baffle inside the muffler on a gy-5, and what were the effects?

Hey! You're lucky - you can unbolt your baffle. Mine (HSUN) is (was) welded around the edge. The weld bead broke a while back, and I had a guy re-weld the bead, but it broke again. I'm glad you posted pix, I was wondering what was inside the pipe.

On yours, remove the baffle and bolt the sucker back together without it, then you can see how much louder it is and if it improves performance.

My exhuast is pretty much straight through with no real baffle in it.

It will be much louder without it.

Well I took it to work and cut it off about an inch behind the plate. Not that much louder and seems not to have that exhaust bog feeling when it's in high gear. Running completely without it sounded awful, and made no performance difference. I may use the plasma cutter at work to cut around where the rolled area is and weld in a bigger dia. pipe.

I like your idea of adding the larger dia pipe. Are there any other restrictions in the big housing or is it wide open?

I really can't believe my camera got this, but this baffle inside of the muffler is all the way toward the very front of the muffler where it reduces into the pipe and goes under the plastic on the side.

Looks like more restrictions in there. A digital camera can do some neat tricks. For instance, I could barely see any writing on my jets. Took some pics with the camera, and I could clearly see the 105 stamped in it. Worked much better than a magnifyig glass.

I don't really know how much restriction that makes, plus I'd have to cut the muffler apart and reweld it to get that out. I think I'll quit while I'm ahead. LOL.

You can always put and extention on a large drill bit and drill out that baffle.

Yep, a few extra holes should not be too tuff.
