update to big trouble...

okay, i got a honda 200cc motor and the yamoto is going to undergo some MAJOR surgery. im still not sure if the wiring will all match up. i opted for the ohc motor (i havve the pushrod style) im going to take pics of the process... even though someone is going to have to hand-feed me directions on how to get them all on here. has anyone successfully given their chinabike a japanese transplant? i kinda hope im first. PIONEERING the japanese/china mash-ups! anyhow, im only halfway back to idaho! california is still too hot!

Hey, it's a knock-off anyway those components were made for each other!

The best thing to do to document, is take notes and pics in the garage, then go to the computer, open a new text document on your desktop and name it. Transcribe your notes there. Then go to a host such as Photobucket and browse you pictures folder. Host the pics one at a time as per the host's directions. Copy the URL (size for forums) to your clipboard.

Open your document on desktop and paste your picture URLs. When you are done making edits, you can "select all" on the edit menu on your document, and then select copy from the edit menu.

Next open up the browser, go to Chinabikes, and start new post . Then give it a subject, tab to the text window, left click for the cursor, then right click and select "paste"

Now you can preview your post for accuracy and correctness before you submit 8)

It sounds complicated, but you'll get used to it.

Good luck,
Tigertamer

Documenting maintenance, yes...Chinese/Japanese fusion, no! 8O

Nope! Your it!

Take lots of pics and notes and start a thread. If you get hung-up somewhere, there's plenty of help and ingenuity here and someone is sure to help!

Don't fear the unknown,

I believe you mean 55...5 year olds are quite adept 8) 8) 8)

Start like you said, with a beginning photo or two, then post them on this thread as a rehearsal, That way, when you are ready to "put it all together", you will not be distracted from your documentation with software and application blunders!

By choosing to document, you are also going to "sign-off" on the quality of your work and your presentation. So your workload just doubled. It is worth the extra effort though, because we just love documentaries and home movies.

As an added bonus, IronFist is passing out the popcorn

Just make sure you start a new text document in notepad and save all your notes and picture URLs in there. Also, don't forget to save your work occasionally. It's safer, and easier to copy and paste from your document to the forum, because if the forum reply window is open too long, your browser might get homesick and redirect you elsewhere! Then you have to retype every thing from scratch.

Now aren't you glad you saved it in notepad...just go back and recopy, re paste back in the forum.

Hang tight "old man" we will make a 5 year old out of you yet!

the ohc engine i got is a "points style" engine... the kickstarter gets in the way of the case, the carb sits sideways if i try to bolt it up... this is truning into a mess. i think it would be easier to start from scratch

keep in mind the lower half of most gy5's frames are bolt on you can make a new steel frame to match the new engine instead of using the current one

Good luck and keep us informed.

okay, its back together and SOUNDS LIKE HELLS FURY!!!!! what the heck do i do with it now?!?! no one is gonna want a yamoto with a SHOT motor. the cam gear is what makes the noise. i filed it down as best i could but its still the resistance and the friction that make it so loud if i put it on here i wont get hardly anything for it. i can put it on craigslist bit thats where i got it from. (kinda like peeing in your own pool) if it goes on ebay..... let me laugh now, (hahahahahaha!) anyhow, anysuggestions?

I wouldn't sell it with a bad engine. how much will it cost you to stuff it in a corner for a while until you find an engine for it you can afford? keep your eyes on craigslist, also call a few motorcycle salvage yards. there is someone out there that is willing to part with an old honda motor for less than gold.

Maybe one of the dealers can find a cam gear from a junk motor cheap?
