My 17t just came in the mail today! After some weekend camping I'm gonna slap 'er on. I'm currently running stock 15/50 and it'll do 65mph WOT up a slight grade...I'm 180, 6'. I just want to be able to hit 60 at an rpm that doesn't rattle my fillings out! Anyone else running 17/50?

Got the 17t from there.

I believe my front is 17. I replaced the rear 56 with a 49. Tops now with me at 250lbs is about 62mph. I will be replacing the rear tire soon with a bigger/taller street tire. It should be good for anothter few mph.

What rpm were you turning?

It may be that your bike is leaning out and won't rev high enough to go any faster.

When I topped out it was only running at about 5000 rpm.

I had moved the c clip to the bottom notch.

I run about 8500rpm topped out in 5th.

I bet you are running too lean yet. Take it out run it too top speed in 5th gear and then shut the bike off. Pull off the road and pull out the sparkplug. Note the color on the plug. Light or white will indicate lean.

Also the opposite may be too rich and it is choking out and not revving.

Holy Guacamole 17t/50t from a 15t/50t is a nice improvement! I still have a 1st gear that will pop the front end up but 5th gear gives me a more comfy 60 and EVERY gear has more pull in it...sweet!

Problem: chain too tight and wheel is adjusted as far in as it will go.

Problem: I still want less rpms at 60.

Problem: Axle bolt and nut are so soft they need replacement.

So I'm gonna order a 46t rear for street. When trail time comes I could just swap the 17t front for the stock 15t front.

Will a 46t rear require me to buy a new chain?

You will need to remove a couple links for the 46t sprocket.

The 17/46 will give you a nice on-road setup and you will be able to do some light off-road too.

I gave her a facelift yesterday. New, shorter, stouter mirrors; new low profile turnsignals; oil change which smoothed out my shifts (amsoil 1040 cycle); hilarious monkey-man decals (I'm a tree climber); real bark busters; fresh handlebar pad (old one was rubber and like 5 pounds!); and most importantly...a 45 tooth rear sprocket!

With these simple upgrades I feel like I went from a toy to a motorcycle. Stock mirrors moved in the wind. The old blinkers were boxy and cheap (and broken

. The oil was dirty to say the least. The stock barkbusters did nothing but bust because there's no reinforcement behind them and the plastic was brittle. The biggest improvement was that 45t rear sprocket. My existing chain from original 15/50 fits perfectly on this 17/45 with no link removal.

Last night on a two hour tour the bike just hauled a@#. I jumped right on the interstate and ran 65 mph along with the rest of traffic right into downtown Seattle at about 3/4 throttle...it felt weird! They're pretty squirrly at those sustained speeds but just manageable. 1st gear in the city is not only useable now but still low enough to pull the front wheel off the ground with no clutch slip. 17/45ish is a very nice ratio! I have a 40t and new chain as well but not sure if I need to go that tall. I suppose 65 mph at 1/4-1/2 throttle would be even better. Seems a sprcket as small as a 40t would cause major chain drag on the swing arm, anyone run into that?

Update on mine (HSUN GY 200)

Installed a new 44T rear sprocket. The original set-up was 17/56. Now, at 17/44 it runs really great! I originally ordered a 46T, but the dealer I ordered it from got a 44.... probably sold out of 46s. Anyway, I think this new gearing is working real well; still plenty of power, but not reving so high at 60mph.

I also stuffed a piece of rag in the blinker beeping box to quiet the blinkers a little. It's a trick I read on here, posted by another member. That works great too.... much quieter, but you can still hear the signal.

Almost wish mine did have the blinker beep...sometimes I go 2 or 3 miles before I realize the blinker's on!!

I wanted to keep a little "beep", but it originally sounded like a large truck backing up. It's just about right now. I have lights on the speedometer that blink left or right too as a reminder.

Gave the 17t/45t another highway run tonight...about 20 miles. Learned a good tuck will give you another 5 miles an hour!
