Suspension Repair Question

Hey everyone,

I recently noticed my car's ride has been rougher than usual, and there's a knocking sound when going over bumps. After inspecting the suspension, I suspect the struts or control arm bushings might be the culprit.

Has anyone dealt with a similar issue? If so, how did you confirm the exact problem? I'm debating whether to replace the components myself or take it to a shop.

Any advice on diagnosing and repairing suspension issues would be much appreciated!

Also, are there specific tools or parts you’d recommend for a DIY repair?

What year model car? If it is the lower control arm bushings, they are usually replacable, though a complete control arm is not usually expensive. But it is a deep down job. We replaced them on my son's '02 Civic... by the time we were done, we replaced the CV axels and steering idler arm connector, etc. Oh, he has a new front end now. Then we ended up getting a remanufactured head (nice 16V head), with gasket set, and installed a timing belt kit while it was off. It had 260k miles when we picked it up from the police tow lot

The starter began to refuse to turn the engine over periodically. That turned out to be a loose solenoid trigger wire right on the starter, easy fix!
