Venom Ghost 250 custom exhaust WIP

I don't like modifying existing parts as I like to keep them just in case I want to put them back on, so I am currently building a new exhaust for my ghost. Ordered a header off aliexpress a while back and got it in today and now I'm just looking for a style of slip on to purchase for it. Will have to bend the pipe a little bit but it fits open header right now. Currently have my eye on this https://www.ebay.com/itm/WASSELL-UNI...72.m2749.l2649 but if anyone has better slip on ideas I'm open to hear them.

Looks so cool! My first thought when looking at the bike was damn I need to change off that big ass muffler. Where did you get the pipe?

Oh also I would love to hear how it sounds with just that pipe just for research purposes if you get a chance!

It has a nice thump to it in person but is way too loud under throttle. Going to have to bend the pipe a little and fit a muffler under the foot peg.

Sounds really awesome actually nothing like a 250 to me I would see about stuffing a baffle in there and see how it sounds. Got any footage of how it sounds under throttle?

No footage under throttle and it's raining hard here now, so no actual riding open header, but is almost unbearably loud over 2k rpm. Took some measurements and I'm probably going to put a shorty and install a good wrapped baffle into it.

when i removed the cat I couldn't resist cranking mine up without the muffler. I took a little ride down the street and it was way too loud but did sound badazz. Even my stock muffler i find it a little loud at 60 + mph.

Sorry if unrelated and perhaps hijacking but didn't want to post a new topic since I'm a new user. I'm looking very hard at this bike lately but I'm wondering if you could take off the black front fork covers and what would it look like without them? I'm thinking they might look better naked, maybe.

Edit: Also JerryHawk250, can you please provide a link to your saddlebags? They look good with the bike.

Edit 2: Is there a link to what kind of maintenance you need to do when it arrives? I've looked at the Hawk and there's a ton of things that most dealers didn't and should've done but Venom does much of this pre-maintainenance, right, I'm assuming since they build the bikes themselves?

I just received mine so I feel like I can probably answer about the fork covers I believe what you are referring to is the black slinky looking thing that goes over the bottom half of the fork? Its just stainless steel under that if that is what you mean I believe all it would take is a pair of scissors to remove them if you chose to.

As for initial things beyond waiting for delivery what I did today was remove the plastic wrap, remove the steel bars that protected the bike during shipping, (I chose to set the bike up myself and not have Venom do it) so I had to install the battery (easy side panel opposite of the inlet for the air box) install the handlebar and left handlebar controls + choke which is just 4 allen key bolts which the allen key comes with the bike in a little tool bag) then I changed the oil because the shipping oil is trash now I'm working on changing the sprocket then tuning the carb and valve clearance and I'll be good to go for a while

You can removed those covers but they are there to keep dirt, dust, sand and whatever else out of the fork seals.

I bought the Saddlebags off of Ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/18445009646...sAAOSwag1fYeha

As far as prepping the bike for your first ride after assembling which isn't much.
1. Adjust your clutch play.
2. Adjust chain tension if needed.
3. Lube the chain and clutch cable. This will make the clutch and chain last much longer.
4. Check all bolts and screws for tightness. I didn't find any loose bolts but always good the check.
5. Run the engine through a few heat cycles then drain and replace the oil with a non-synthetic motorcycle oil. 10w40 for winter and 20w50 for summer.
6. It's always a good idea to adjust the valves on any of these bikes. Just about all the bikes come with the valves set to little or no gap.
7. Put on your helmet and riding gear and go take it out for some good easy driving to start your break in. Avoid WOT for the first few hundred miles. Don't be that guy that comes back on here and say " I don't know why the engine locked up? I had the throttle pegged and could only get 50 mph out of it."

After you get some miles on her, some of the best mods for these bikes are installing a 103 to 105 main jet, gain access to the idle mixture screw and adjust it to about 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated as a starting point. That usually gets me right on the first try. Changing the rear sprocket to a 36 tooth will help reduce high speed vibration and increase top end speeds. Other mods are removing the cat to make the exhaust more fee flowing and invest in a speed calibrator like the SpeedoDRD. The speedometer is a little optimistic. lol

Now back to our regular program.

Finally got around to bending the pipe to fit the muffler. Now the only thing left to do is heat wrap it.

Looks good. You have a link to the baffle you ordered?
I see your center stand hangs low too. I shaved a little off the rubber stop with a razor knife on the center stand to bring it up more parallel with the swing arm.
