komoto 250 horsepower
my komot 250 doesnt seem to have all the power it should.. so far i have rejeted the carb genuine k and n cone filter with pre filter and the c clip mod. all have seemed to help but it seems like its lacking alot of low end power. my dads 1983 honda xl 250 will run circles around it up hills. i dunno about WOT on a straight away. Maybe im just expecting more than i should be? i dunno how do your guy's 250's run?

Put a different exhaust on it (open-free flowing) and you will gain the low end like night and day but you may have to rejet it again.
I did a K&N rc-1120 filter W/sock, a aftermarket exhaust for an xr200 and HAD to rejet it from the stock 98 to a 115. It picked up a lot of low end torque which is what I needed to get it to move/get going in the deep sand we find on some of the trails here in michigan. Of course my bike is only a 200cc bike but a few simple mods can wake these chinese engines up a bit. |

i dunno if the exhaust is really holding the bike back to much. If you have ever heard a komot or bird you would know there pretty loud and seem pretty free flowing. did you notice a increase in power with your bike as it broke in? mine has 200 miles on it so im thinking it should be pretty well broken in.

dragon, how does your bird pull hills? here in portland oregon its really hilly and im constantly having to down shift and hold in full throttle to get up hills. is this normal?

Give it some more miles. Mine gain some more after about 500 miles.

Yeah I was thinking about the exhaust on those after I posted that but I'd have to take one off a bike to actually see.
The exhaust I put on mine is a straight shot thru and only had a spark arrestor screen keeping it from being completely open. It does have the packed chamber wrapped around the inner tube but I doubt it does much. Do those komoto's have the CAT on the header as well ? |

Is there all that much difference in power between a 250 and a 200 in these bikes? Reason I ask is because an engine swap might be a future mod.

My Komoto doesn't seem to due to bad in the power area. I am 5' 11" and almost 300 pounds. I haven't really got to see what it does in the hills yet.
