SSR xf250 firing while cranking
When I go to start my bike it acts like the kill switch is on. I have to turn the key off and back on several times then it fires up and it runs fine. Problem has gotten worse. Is this the ignition switch or a loose wire or coil issue? My bike is a 2020 SSR dual sport

Check your grounds and connections for anything loose or corroded... Particularly anything in the circuit related to ignition.

SSR xf250 starting/firing issues
I had thought there was a problem with the ignition switch itself cause turning it off and back on several times always works but i been see searching for solutions today and see it could be a number of things. The problem started months ago but is getting worse. I have noticed that alot of the little bolts and things are already corroded or rusted so you may may be right. Why does switching it off and on seem to get the firing started again you think?

After doing what Franque suggests, try to replicate the starting procedures with the plug and wire out. Do a visual check for consistent spark at the plug.
Also, this could be a failing kickstand safety switch. Check those wires as well or just disconnect it.

Member 'dh' is our resident XF250 expert. He usually chimes in to XF250 posts, but we have not had one for quite a while, so you might want to PM him and give him the link to this thread.

If messing with the key solves it, before you do anything I would pull out the ignition cylinder and flood it with contact cleaner, spin the key around it a bunch of times while it's still wet with cleaner, and check all the solder connections on the bottom.
I was working on an SSR a while back that was exhibiting very annoying key related symptoms and this got it working correctly, without having to replace or fully disassemble the cylinder. Worth a shot, and should only cost you about 5 cents worth of contact cleaner. |
