What's up guys - I haven't updated this in a hot minute so thought I'd drop by. I've got my TT250 head gasket installed, the head is back on, I need to adjust my valves...just havent' gotten a chance yet. It's gonna be chilly and wet here for at least the next week to 10 days, AND I'm still trying to get my town clerk to respond to me.

I also pulled the rear shock out and took some measurements in case I want to upgrade I'll know what to look for without having to take it out. Greased up the top and bottom bolts, lock tite and reinstalled.

I jetted my pumper carb - starting at 110 main, 38 pilot, 2 turns out on idle mixture, needle clip at middle position. I'll adjust accordingly from there.

Hey Old biker I responded to your PM. Let me know if I can answer any questions.

Quick update as I haven't updated this thread in a hot minute. Charged the battery, have the front wheel on, fender is mounted, head gasket done, valve lash set. I need to extend teh wiring for the rear LED turn signals and I can't find my soldering iron so off to Harbor Freight I go.

Then I'm gonna change the oil, get this throttle cable mounted back up, set my chain slack and go over a few more things...then I think I'll start it.

Sprocket and Chain replacement will come soon after, waiting on my digital dash setup and my fat bars still.

Oh I got an inline fuel filter to add also.

You know I thought that too, I'd ask him but he doesn't have it anymore...well i might ask him anyway. I got myself a piece of 1/4" aluminum and I think I'm gonna try to make up my own little rack, it was cheap so if it doesn't work out, no big deal.

So I was pleasantly surprised last night. I installed LED turn signals at all 4 corners. I had ordered an LED flasher relay and a diode kit in anticipation of issues.

But I though, well let's just see what it does first. Turned the key, hit the blinker switch, lo and behold.....everything works fine. Dash lights work, blinkers blink at a normal rate and properly. I was surprised based on past experience and also things I've seen and read I though I would at the very least need the put in a new flasher relay.

So, perhaps the 2020 Hawk is plug n play for LED turn signals after all.

BTW - The turn signals I got were nothing special, paid like $8 a pair so I don't think there's a fancy circuit in them causing resistance or anything like that, I could be wrong though LED electronics aren't my forte' so to speak.

My 2017 and 2018 both never needed a new relay either. At some point I think they just started installing cheap electronic relays that are not load dependent during assembly.

I sure have been enjoying this thread. I have read it 2-3 times. I have been setting up my bike the last few days. I have relied on MegaDan and JerryHawk pro tips so much that I am starting to think I name the bike DanJer. Lol. Keep up the interesting information

Well late last night I found a way to route my throttle cable that I'm happy with, and no binding. Mounted the tank back on, the plastic, the seat, set the chain slack and changed the oil and trued the front rim. I'll do the rear when I change the sprocket.

Tomorrow - we ride! Well, start anyway.

I did not remove the rear axle to grease it as I plan to do the sprocket and chain swap right off, like literally right off. I might go around the yard a bit and down the road and back but that's about it.

Ok just did the first start on the bike....started right up for the most part. It didn't wanna be full choked, half choke was best and then after not long no choke. Turned the idel screw up a bit and let it run for 5 minutes. It's cooling off now and I'll do another heat cycle. I'm not anal about break ins honestly but we'll do a few cycles and some low speed variable throttle for a bit.

One thing I need to address so far is that if I get on the throttle quick, it dies. Guessing I might have gone too big with the Pilot.

Possible it's too big, but not by much. I would look into the idle mixture, but do so after riding the bike around for a solid 5-10 minutes so that you know for sure the engine is fully up to temp. Idling for 5 minutes won't be enough.

I have a 38 pilot on my bike and I am less than 2 turns out.

Another suggestion. Leave the pumper cable end disconnected for now until you have the jets figured out. The accelerator pump can mask or exaggerate tuning issues.

The cable for the accelerator pump is disconnected I actually thought of that all on my own, LOL. Anyway, I'll give the mixture screw a try it didn't occur to me it could be causing the issue. I'll give that a go tomorrow night after work. I'm at 2.5 turns out. Thanks!!

That makes you smarter than the average coconut for sure.

Do you have a way to turn the idle mixture while the bike is running? That is honestly the most annoying part of the whole process.

If your pumper carb came with an idle mixture screw that has a little knob that sticks out the bottom you can actually put a bit of fuel tubing on it so that you can turn it with your fingers. Just make sure to put a mark or 2 on it to help keep track of position.

hmm, ya the screw sticks down but it's smooth with a flat head at the end but I may be able to get some small tubing or something on it.....great idea. Thanks!

Some knurling definitely helps, but if the tubing fits tight enough it actually isn't needed. If you really wanted to you could use a scribe or a fine chisel to create some indents/marks on the outside surface to help give the tubing something to grab.
