No, there must be something a little different with the Lifans if this is a reoccuring problem. I would still like to know if there are replacement pads that are made by one of the big 4. My pads are still looking good at over 11k miles but I know I will need to replace them eventually.

Jason
Jason, do we have the small round pads like the Lifans, or do we have a curved rectangular pad like most bikes use??

Round front and more retangular in the rear as I recall.

I did the cutout on the pads like Q. Worked for a while but now the noise is back and louder than before. It's driving me fricken crazy!   I am now on a quest to find out which other brand fits the Lifan. You know, the ones that don't make the noise. Need to find a Roketa or other dealer in my area. I live outside of Charlotte, NC.

Front Brake Noise FINALLY FIXED!

I think I finally figured it out. If you look at the caliper, it's not at the same angle as the rotor. I put a small washer behind the top bolt and I have absolutely no noise. At least for now. We'll see.

Interesting. Doesn't surprise though. I had to shim one of the bolts on the rear caliper so it wouldn't contact the rotor.

The front brake squeel / noise on my 08 Lifan GY-5 was annoying. I trimmed the pads, but the noise returned in a few miles, maybe an improvement, but not 100%. I did not have any Brake Quiet made by CRC, but this stuff just seems to be RTV or silicone sealant of sorts. I smeared the backing plates of the pads w/ silcone sealant and let it cure, reassembled and the brakes are TOTALLY silent. I think the rubber/silicone sealant absorbs vibration on the back plate of the pad...this really works well, I would guess any decent quality silicone sealant / caulk would work well for a cheap CB fix if it is something you have on hand and want to avoid a trip to the store and $$. IMO this is the fix.

I don't have a squeal with my brakes, more of a growl. If I ride at low speed, I can see the floating caliper vibrate and I see a slight wobble in the rotor. Any thoughts?

I reposted this from another thread . My own computer is down but I will try to get some pics up

This whole post sounds very familiar, my front brake was rubbing and growling continuously. It was driving me nuts, I had ground the excess off the pads, checked and rechecked the bolts and the rotor to no avail. Today I finally think I have discovered the problem and fixed it. The left side pad(the floating pad) was enough undersized in the caliper that it hung up and was not sliding smoothly. I had some 3M aluminum tape that I trimmed to fit around the edge of the pad to shim it in the caliper. The pad now fits just snug enough to slide smoothly and the noise is gone. HOORAH!

First time for pics lets see if it works 8O

I smoothed the edges of the pad with the dremel tool before I put everything back together but you all can see how it fits flush instead of loose.

I had this problem on my Lifan. Couple of washers to align the caliper and all was good.
