Head Scratching KeiHin PZ26 Jetting Question

Hi all,

I have a KP Mini 150, and just installed a PZ26 carburetor and a pod filter in place of the stock setup.

The bike is idling great, good at lower rpms, but when I get into the higher rpm range (> 5000), the bike is sputtering a bit. I'm guessing this may be due to needing to increase the size of the main jet, but not sure. Newer to adjusting and tuning carbs.

I've got the needle jet on the fourth ring down of five (stock was 3). And my fuel mixture is at 2.5 turns out. This made for a little less sputter, but still falling a little flat when in the higher range.

Hoping to get some direction on this as I'd rather not go back to the stock carb as it has no adjustments at all and may be getting the KP Moto exhaust as well.

Thanks for the help! -- Jared

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

So... after a lot of single changes to the needle jet and fuel mixture screw, I ended up putting the stock carb back on. It's running like a champ, probably a tad lean but I'm good with that as it was already a bit on the thin side.

If I had some jets, I may have gone there, but would have been more time spent with trial and error and less time riding.

The saying rings true! If it ain't broke, don't fix it (or change it in this case)!

If anyone does have a setup like this and has been able to get their high rpms running right, please let me know. Otherwise, I'm sticking with what I've got!

If it's falling on its face in the higher rpm's you will need to increase the size of the main jet. The needle jet and idle mixture are for idle and partial throttle.

im having this same problem with my bike. for sure your gonna want to step up a size or two on the main. another thing with will help with tuning is installing a new air/fuel screw self adjuster. that will certainly help with some fine tuning on the fly. what color is the plug?

I just ordered a new similar carb so I can rejet for the kp moto exhaust. I heard the stock carbs come with a mystery jet. I'm guessing a 40p/115-120m will be a good starting point with the exhaust and uni filter? Not sure just throwing it out there to see what people think.

Plug is a lil on the lean side coloring. Not getting the roasted marshmallow brown with the stock jets. I bought a knock off keihin apparently from Whygostock.

https://www.amazon.com/shamofeng-Car...ix=pz26&sr=8-5 I bought this cheap Chinese Carb. I threw a 40 pilot 110 main in the video. I currently have a 42 pilot 115 main 1 1/4 out on the air screw. That's with the Kp moto exhaust. Seems to run decent smells a little rich. I have to check the plug still haven't ridden it much. This thing woke up just like my Brozz did with the basic upgrades. Still breaking it in though. Have yet to really get on it. This thing will power wheelie in 1st and 2nd no problem. Fun little bike.

Thanks for the video. I'm ordering the jet kit today from Amazon. Looks like they are pretty standard.

Ended up throwing in a 38 pilot and a 110 main. Got rid of the sputtering at full throttle... have a little flat spot up at the highest rpm. May step up to the 40 and 115 as you did. I don't have the exhaust on it yet, so not flowing quite as much air out as I would hope to be.

Gonna try to get a ride in tomorrow morning to check on the plug after putting some miles on the new setup.

Thanks again for the info everyone!

That sounds so good! I need one of those! Already have a call into a local dealer in Phoenix to line it up.

Here's my plug using a 38p and 110m as my jet setup. Fuel mixture is 1 1/2 turns out. I think this is pretty optimal for the pod filter without the exhaust. Whuddya think?

Plus looks just about perfect to me. Nice straw/burnt marshmallow color. Looks like it's looking that mixture and jets.
