New from "Wild, Wonderful " West Virginia

Hello, My name is Bill, I'm 54 and I have not been on a bike since the mid 90s. I just stumbled across some videos on YouTube on these Hawk dual sport 250s,and was very surprised at the fact that these bikes are so cheap priced, as well as considered by most to be dependable. I intend to buy one ,but have some questions.. I lean toward the fuel injected DLX, but from what I have seen in the specs they are rated at 11hp, and the X-Pro carbureted model is rated at 14hp. I have watched a few videos, and it seems that most folks that own both think the injected model has more low end ,and far better suspension as well.. I weigh 260,and 6"1' tall . I would appreciate any advise that you can offer.. I don't mind paying $500 more for the DXL IF it is worth it ,but if it is more underpowered than the X-Pro I would like to save my $500....Thanks

Welcome aboard! I have a 2016 Hawk 250 that i've owned for a little over 4 years with over 8000 miles. It's been a very dependable bike. Keep it simple. Once you have the carb tuned you shouldn't have to really mess with the carb after that.

Thanks Jerry, I saw some of your videos, and they helped convince me that these bikes can be dependable. I have no desire to abuse whichever model I do decide to buy. My intention is just to have a back road machine that will also be decent on 2 lane roads. I was on 2 stroke dirt bikes all through my youth, but have no actual street bike experience. I think a bike such as the Hawk would be easy to re learn on. I almost forgot to ask, but I assume when you say "Keep it simple" that you recommend the carburetor model.

EFI is great but if i'm 3 or 4 miles into some trails and a carb get clogged for some reason. I know I can pull it and clean it out and be back on my way. If the EFI or ECU goes out you better be ready to call someone or start pushing. If you are strictly riding street then EFI will be fine. Less chance of getting stranded. Someone is bound to pass you by.

Welcome

Welcome to the forum.
I'm also a new hawk owner, rps250 in green
I think you will really enjoy the bike and the folks here I know I have and the info is spot on.
So far my hawk has been the most fun I've had with a motorcycle in a good while .
I hope you enjoy and ride safe.

I thank you all for the warm welcome, and good advice. I was just checking bikes out on Amazon, but have looked at TX Power Sports as well. The more bikes I look at the more questions I have, but I should probably ask them in the proper area of this sight. If you other owners don't mind me asking your weight, and how these bikes are affected by heavy riders. I am ,as stated in my initial post 260 lbs. I hope to get back into better shape, and maybe getting this type of bike may be incentive for me .
