ordered '20 Brozz, got '18

This is a bit off topic but ties in to the conversation. I am considering buying a used 2018 Brozz 250. It has the standard shocks and rear drum brakes. The bike was well taken care of and has had its first service done on it.

What I am trying to figure out, is if I should pay an extra 400-500 dollars to get the upgraded forks and brakes on the 2020? Is it that much better?

I am a beginner rider and will be driving mostly pavement. Thank you in advance, hope that 2018 you got is coming along!

My 2 cents. Is it worth it? Yes. The front forks will have a lot less flex, the rear brake will be more powerful/better. I also believe the gauges were improved as well.

That being said, is the old model a bad bike? Heck no. If you know for sure the bike was well taken care of and you can save a few hundred bucks, why not? Us Hawk guys ride around on the same thin forks just fine. The rear drum is functional, and the front does most of the work so there really isn't much wrong with it either. Otherwise, more or less the same frame and engine.

Here is how I would choose. Are you on a tight budget or are otherwise a thrifty person? If so, get the older lightly used one for the best price you can. Another advantage to saving all of that money is that it leaves you some extra cash for mods if you decide to do them.

If money isn't a big concern, get the new one with all of the upgrades.

I might be a bit biased since I have an '18, but originally wanted a '20. The standard forks are much lighter than the USD forks, and much easier to work on. The rear drum is stone reliable, and you will never be rebuilding hydraulics or bleeding that rear brake. Just my two cents.

Since you are planning on doing mostly road riding I would definitely want the upgraded version. You will see a lot of street only bikes with fork braces, there is a safety benefit to heavier front forks. I like the ease of replacing break pads on disc brakes and they seem to have greater stopping power, which is why modern bikes all pretty much have disc brakes. It’s not really that much money for the extra safety you get. JMHO

Thanks for all the info everyone. The 2018 has 100 miles on it and has already had a good amount of service done to it. I think I can get it for 1500 so not a bad deal since it is all put together and running good. He has already rejetted the carbs and changed the oil and gearbox oil

It makes sense that the bigger forks will be safer. Has anyone had experiences driving on pavement where the standard forks felt unsafe? I don't plan on driving crazy but hey you never know if the mood strikes haha

Yes, Dbrown bought the 2018 that I had for a week. I don't know what I'm going to do right now. Get a 2020 brozz from peacesports or get a tt250 from CSC. Small world...

Like I said, lots of us Hawk and tbr7 guys ride around on those forks just fine. The USD forks flex less which gives a little better feedback, but that doesn't mean the standard forks are unsafe at all.

Thanks Megadan. Thanks to the info I got here, ironically enough, I bought the bike from mtiberio! Definitely a small world. Got it home and have been buzzing around the neighborhood and can't stop! Heck of a bike it is awesome

Congrats on the bike and glad you are enjoying it. These bikes can be a ton of fun to ride around as long as you aren't unrealistic about their capabilities.

Had to be a record for me. From delivery of the crate to loading the assembled bike on your buddies truck, 8 days... Enjoy. I have had so many calls from my Craigslist ad, my wife says I should start ordering these and building and selling them. Lets see, if I only lose $80 per bike, maybe I can make it up in volume... 8^))
