IT’S RUNNING!!!!
Thank you all so much for your help. Now I need help with making it idle correctly (not sure if that is the correct to say what I’m talking about or not). When I crank it and turn the choke off, even thoughts it’s in N and sitting still, the engine sounds as if I had it wide open. Is it supposed to sound like that? I was able to adjust it by using the choke. |

The idle speed can be adjusted with one of the screws on the side of the carb ,the one in line with the throttle cable is the idle speed screw ,if you adjust it and it doesn’t help ,there is a chance the slide has been installed incorrectly ,but try adjusting the screw outward first

How do I remove the throttle cable from the old spring and slide and install the new one? Once I change them out, how do I properly install it? I’m going to search YouTube also but you guys explain stuff that makes it easy for me to understand. |

Afternoon Update: I replaced the old slide, spring, and needle with the new ones. Changing those pieces out is tough....the spring is 2X the length of the throttle cable I had to work with. I think I aligned the grove on the slide with the idle screw. It slid in smoothly. After changing those pieces out, I tested it out again. Now, I have a new issue. When it is in gear, it idles smoothly. However, when it’s in neutral, the engine revs up as if you had it pegged out.
What do I do now? My current setup is: - The idle screw and air flow screw (not sure if this are the correct terms) are “in” as far as they can be. - The governor screw is ~1/2 way in |

A couple of things:
1. To decrease the idle, you want to turn the idle screw *out* (counterclockwise). The idle screw on most carbs has a little spring behind it that you can see on the outside of the carb, but some do not. See here @ 35 seconds in: 2. When you put the new carb on, did you make sure that where the carb hooks up to the engine (intake manifold) is bolted on sufficiently tight and that you had the gasket in the right direction? The O-ring side of the gasket should be facing the carb and sufficiently tightened onto the manifold to prevent an air leak, which can cause crazy surging of the throttle at idle. |

One thing to note, the slide can go in either way but will only run right one direction. On the LEFT side of the carburetor is the idle adjustment screw (don't mess with the one on the right side, that's air mixture, adjust that later). Now, the slide, it has two notches in it. One is for the cable, the other is for the idle screw. When you turn the screw in it pushes that ramped notch and lifts the slide. Unscrew the slide cap and make certain the slide is in so that the ramped notch is facing the left side of the quad (left side as you are sitting on it).

If you look at the throddle cable there should be a cable adjustment covered in rubber. Pull the rubber back and you can adjust the cable length. You should be able to see it near the handle bars

As far as idling is concerned, what is optimal? Is there a preferred idle for when it’s in neutral vs. drive? How does one know what’s optimal and how to achieve it? So far, for me, if it doesn’t rev up like it’s wide open and doesn’t go dead, I’m good with it.

Somewhere around 1500 rpm's.
