Watch for rear tire rubbing on muffler with non-stock tires
This is embedded in a couple of other posts I have made about my tires, but I thought it was important enough to re-post.
I swapped my tires to Conti GO! on my TT250. I used 90/90/21 front and 120/90/18 rear. While I noticed that the rear seemed wider than the stock, and didn't interfere with the chain, frame, or swingarm, I didn't check clearance with the muffler. Thanks to Emerikol and JerryHawk250 for pointing out that the shiny band on my rear tire is from the exhaust rubbing it. I thought it was because it was still the un-touched part of the new tire...because I am not a person who leans way over on corners. But NO. JerryHawk250 says this happens with non-stock nobbies too. I am putting a shim(s) in to move the muffler out. And, maybe dent the inside of the muffler if needed.

Isn't that tyre a bit oversized? Checking some info on the hawk it even comes with 120/100 r18, which also seems oversized.
For those bikes i think a good rear that won't rub or too big for the engine is an 120/80 r18. |

I used a tire conversion chart...
Quote:
From this chart (URL below) it converts a 4.5 to 4.75-18 to a 120/90-18. The TT250 comes with a 4.6-18. It is definitely wider...and use will require spacing out the muffler 1/2"...which I found out the hard way. So, I think that if you don't want to add spacers, then the 110/90-18 would be a better choice. But, the chart converts this for 4.0 to 4.25-18 tire size. Or, the 120/80-18 that you suggest. This profile wasn't a choice in the tire I wanted...even if I had known better. http://www.transcanimports.com/downl...on%20Chart.pdf
