The Final Word on CDI (okay final is an exageration)
Since I am without a doubt the 100% self-declared GY expert. I've decided to turn my considerable powers to doing some good. To that end, I purchased an AMR racing CDI box.
The first thing I noticed was a crisper response to throttle input. I then noticed that the bike wanted to stall unless I turned the idle up to about 1800. I took it for a ride. Not much gain off the line but in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear I really noticed the motor was just more there. My bike would not rev beyond about 7200. I only tried briefly but it was maxed. the module I have still has some sort of a rev limit OR perhaps there is some other stop. It's probably for the best. this mod is worth trying. I got my 60.00 worth. take care. |

i cant say for sure that they didnt alter my front sprocket when they took the liberty of changing them. but yeh..about 7200 rpm and right around 65 or so. give or take.
so what can I learn from this? |

k...i will check speed at 6 k... i estimate right now about 55 mph based on my memory. I just think I am too heavy to go much faster than 60-65. but the box is good for the most part...I mean, I like it so far. I think perhaps I should have gone with the stage 2 though. dunno why i have that feeling, I just do.

You purchased the stage 3 right? 65 is good, but it's a far cry from the 90mph I was hearing about. Thanks for informing us. I don't want to drop $60 to go the same speed I do now.

For that price, you could buy dielectric grease and redo all connections, a tank of gas, new plugs, and oil, a pack of smokes and a bottle of gatorade. Pick a rain day and go over the whole bike.

the box I have apparently still has a rev limiter in it. the bike does have more useful power even near top speed and like I said 2 3 4 gear is nice. I wish I'd waited and bought another one cheaper but what the hell nothing ventured, nothing gained. and the drag is..i lost the cool sticker they sent me with the box.

took it off for now. this is something to plug in before you go racing or maybe to do some hot rodding. I will keep it as a ace in the hole thing but it is not suited for my bikes mods perfectly. might try the stage 2 also.

RPM's
CR asked about speed at 6k. Here is the reading from my stock 07 Lifan gy5 on the stock speedo.
4th gear-6000rpm-50mph 5th gear-6000rpm-59mph 5th gear-7400rpm-71mph and still climbing but I stopped there. It got there with no problem at all with me at 200lbs/6ft sitting up in the wind. 5500miles on the bike and c-clip all the way down. You'd be amazed at what these bike can do if well tuned. It will haul my butt up some pretty high, steep hills in 5th at 60mph.
