Oil change question
I would like some advise. I’ll start by saying that I am not very mechanically inclined. I have some knowledge and am more than willing to learn.
With that being said, I am having an issue with the oil level of my hawk dlx. I did the first oil change. I did not measure how much oil I added. Probably my first mistake. :(. With that being said, I did check the dip stick and it is showing oil at the proper level. The bike is centered using a motorcycle floor jack. However , when I look at the sight glass, it is showing very low oil. I am pretty sure the bike is reasonably level. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong. I just don’t know what. lol Any ideas? Should I just ignore the sight glass and go by the dipstick? Also, does anyone know how much oil these bikes take? The manual says 1.6 quarts. That seems high. When I search these for forums, I read conflicting info. Please any advise is appreciated. Last edited by Lordrefa; 01-10-2020 at 01:04 PM. Reason: Typo |

Go by what the sight glass indicates. That will be the correct amount. It will be about 1 quart.

Dipsticks are known to be wrong. I think they use same dipstick in multiple different motors.

Bike should be standing straight up when checking the oil level.

1.16 quarts if we want to get technical here. Fool proof way to get the proper level. Fill until oil is centered in sight glass. Run it for a few minutes, let it sit for a few minutes and check level, top off to middle if needed. This is pretty much the Honda oem method for oil level checks.
Realistically the full level for most sight glasses is toward the top of the glass, but seeing as we have no markings the middle is a safe bet.

I fill it until it is in the middle, start the bike and let it run then turn off and let it sit 20 minutes. I check again to be sure. (Note I left the dipstick out and started the bike and walked away, DO NOT DO THIS HAHAHA I sprayed oil all over my garage.)
