PZ30 Tuning
It seems there is a ton of info on these PZ30s but some specific info I’m looking for is hard to find. I would like to know what jets you have, where you have the needle set, elevation, and mods. Maybe we can collect this together in one thread for new ppl like me to get an idea where to start.
I have no mods yet. Planning on opening up the air box and a PZ30 Pumper carb and that’s about it. I’m going to try a 42 pilot, 110 main, and the needle set on the 3rd notch down. I’m nearly at sea level. Hopefully that’s a good starting place for me. I really don’t know. Once I get it installed I will edit this post with those results. Hopefully this type of thread hasn’t already been done. Thanks guys! |

Bashan DB-47 250
Keihin PZ 30 120main 38pilot clip 4 down from top of needle 1 3/4 out on mixture screw Airbox snorkel removed and egr deleted Top speed 66mph on speedo not gps verified Thanks to NZ for getting me the assortment of pilot, main jets and all the extra stuff I want for tuning. Hawk 250: PZ30B (pumper). Main 125, Pilot 45(needs a 48), Mixture 2 1/4 out. Needle 3rd notch (middle). Elevation. 1100ft.
Mods. Ported/polished and decked cylinder head (10.3:1 compression approximately), foam pod filter, ebay exhaust, ngk DPR8EIX-9 plug with halved length wire and XDO5 cap with resistor removed.

PZ30 (The newer style with cold start jets) 105 Main, 40 Cold Start, Needle jet clip adjusted in middle notch. Pilot 2 1/4 turns out.
Runs like a bastard out of a brothel now! Slight, slight decel backfiring but not enough for me to care. I'll replace the plug someday and check color thoroughly when I feel like it. |

PZ30 pumper(Cold Start Jets) 115 main, 40 pilot. middle notch I think? 430 feet above sea level outside of Dallas.
Finally got the decel backfires gone, pulls hard and I can kick start it now.

stock pz30 carb. Altitude 0 at NJ shore. 110 main, stock pilot, two small washers under needle E-clip. mix currently 2.5 turns out. Pain in the ASS to start. mix might be wrong?

Yes the stock 40 pilot jet. from what I read, it isnt replaceable on the shengwey. everything else stock, no mods. battery removed because i burned it out and it wont charge. I did replace the main 98 with a 100 jet on ebay. Think it was sold as a "mikuni". FWIW, it will start and stay running nicely, but it is a PITA to kickstart. Ive had other 4t dirtbikes that start on one kick, not this one. My procedure is half-throttle half-choke kick when cold, and full throttle kick no choke when hot. Doesn't always go though.

I got the kit from nzbrakelathes and it comes with everything needed for the pilot and the main jets and other useful rebuild parts. It comes with a 42 and a 45 pilot.

Yes, take the jet out and snap a photo of it - He will be able to tell you if it's the one he has.

40 pilot jet, 120 main, 1 3/4 to 2 turns out, needle on last notch, and UNI filter. 981 ft above sea level.
