Golden shock, I want silver
A picture was posted of a member's bike, with silver shocks. He mentioned some product that he have put on it and then washed off the yellow.
Please point me towards that message if you know what I'm talking about. I hate these yellow shocks, even my wife made a remark about it.

It was Greased Lightning, full strength. Spray it on and let it work for a minuet or so, but don't let it dry. Hose it off and you'll see the color run (don't do it on anything you don't want stained, like concrete). The forks will have a whitish look when they dry. I just used a tiny bit of WD-40 on them and they shine, if you are really worried about it you could polish and clear coat the forks.
It was an accident on my part, but it worked out since one fork had faded to a funky yellowish color anyway. |

Ahh, thank you.
I'm not familiar with Greased lightning, I'll have to read up about it. ....Ok, found it. Some type of detergent, used in shops to clean. I don't think it is locally available, I'll have to find something else. I'll experiment with thinners.

You might try WalMart for greased lightning. I have seen it in the auto dept.

No clue but any purple type cleaner should do the same. It's just a very powerful degreaser. So You might be able to find something like it but not that brand.

If you are looking for something to remove the anodizing, you can also try oven cleaners.

Here is a link I found on removing anodizing and the active ingredient is lye.

The stuff on our forks isn't really anodizing.... I think it's more like a permanent marker. |

detergent
Oops, sorry I took so long to reply.
Nope, in SA we don't have Walmarts. I'm sure I can find something similar at the autoparts store. However, I'm starting to doubt whether it is a good idea to remove this anodizing / ink. I just have a feeling it is going to take some work afterwards to keep it looking shiny or clean.
