Hawk gas gauge not working.

And yes I did try to search the forums first and it said the word gas is either too short or too long so it brought a bunch of threads about gauge clusters.

I hadn't really noticed before today but I've got the tank about half full and the gauge hasn't budged off the E. Just wondering if this is a common thing or maybe a wire is bad etc. I'm not even really that worried about it because most bikes don't have them, but..

Pull the tank and check the wire and connector for breaks or bad connections. I recently had to solder the connection on the sending unit. It's just crimped on there and the slightest bit of corrosion will make it not work.

Here a thread that someone else posted and where I got the info from to fix mine.

Thanks Jerry, I'll look into that as soon as this bug passes.

I remember humanbeing saying the float would putout O - 100 Ohm's empty to full on the tank sensor's output. Check that with a multimeter !

Check your connections behind the headlight too. Mine quit once and that is where the problem was

and it has metal ear on each side that the arm stops on that you can bend till you get the correct readings. i remember 10-90 but either would probably be close enough.

Is it normal for the gauge to bounce around like crazy while riding?

Ya, especially if your tank is half full. I thought about adding a 5k Ohm resister to slow the effect. I could use a Radio Shack now.

I pulled my sending unit apart and took the slop out of the arm that caused a connection break in the pontentiometer arm. Works perfectly and reliably now. http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=23159
