Tao Tao Starter Issue
My starter on my ATA250D has stopped working, by that I mean it's turning and it's turning the starter reduction gear but now for some reason it's not turning the starter drive clutch gear (or the 2 gears before the starter drive gear). It had always made a really loud noise when starting but now it won't turn the motor over. I took the starter & the reduction gear and plate off and the plate over the magneto off and everything looks fine, no broken or striped gears. At first I thought the starter had went bad or striped the gear but it looks good. Just wondering what may have happened? Anyone else had this issue and what did you do to fix it?

Well the starter checked out ok but it seems I have a gear/gears that are wore down to where it's trying to work like it should but it seem to be slipping. If you loosen the starter and lift and twist it then it does better but still slips. By just looking at the gears they look good and don't appear to be stripped. I haven't got the Starter clutch off yet but it seems to be working like it's supposed to . If anyone has ideas or has had this issue I would like to know what you did to fix it.

Sounds like a bad one way bearing on the starter clutch. I'm not saying this is the exact one you need. Here's a link to give you and idea of what you will be looking for. You will need to pull it out to verify dimensions and tooth count. https://www.motopartsmax.com/index.p...roducts_id/666

Where is the rest of it? Was it apart like that or did you take it apart? You may need to replace it. Measure the hole spacings and shaft size and compare it to the one I linked to see if they match.
