Blowing LED bulbs, maybe resolved
So yesterday I decided to give it one final shot at this bulb blowing issue.
Sorry that these photos are so large. I thought I shrunk them down enough. This is not my best electrical work BTW. This time I wired in a regulator like I used on my Tomos TX-50. What you do is tie the wire from the alternator to the yellow wire on the regulator and every wire you want regulated to this yellow wire. The black wire goes to ground but I think as long as it's bolted to the frame it grounds through the body. I tied the wire from the battery through a switch I used to kill the alarm system I thought was draining the battery to the regulator then the two headlights and tail light together using a wire nut. So far so good. I used some LED H3 bulbs and siliconed them into the housing. I soldered a ground wire to the bulb housing. I thought maybe the silicone was conductive and that was what was blowing the bulbs. What I can't understand is why the bike's regulator is not preventing these LEDs from blowing. I tested the voltage with the bike on jackstands and revved it up and it doesn't vary above 12.?? volts. I drove up and down my driveway and around the house and they are still not blown. Which is longer than before. Before the lights wouldn't last but maybe a minute.
