Choke is on the left side of the carb, should be a little black handle that you have to reach up under the fuel tank to get to.

Did it start when the weather was warm?
Like MegaDan said, the choke is on the Left side of the carb look for a little black plastic "lever" on the carb to push up and down on. You also might need to richen up the pilot screw a bit, or go up a size on the pilot jet for the winter.

Well I just got a chances to check on this thread. I feel like a bit of a dummy I found the choke and will give it a try when I need to fire it next time. Do I need to turn the choke off or will it turn off when you throttle it?

Manually activated and deactivated. The choke has 3 positions. Full, Half, Off. Being cold, full choke will be needed to start the bike, and likely to run it for up to a minute. At that point you can go to half choke for warm up and idle for a couple of minutes, and once the engine is warm enough you can turn the choke off. It all has to be done by hand, there is no automatic here.

Rear brake lever should attach to the rear master with a clevis pin and a washer on each side of the lever arm. It should be retained with a cotter pin on the clevis on the back side. Looks like your cotter pin either broke off or fell out and the clevis decided to leave shortly after.
I would advise against a bolt as a permanent solution as it may cause the lever and master to pinch together. A quick trip to ace hardware should turn up a clevis and cotter that will work to replace that one. Put a bit of marine grease on the clevis when you slide it through and make sure that cotter pin gets set properly. A new clevis pin and cotter pin for it (or E-clip version if that suits your fancy) should only cost a couple bucks. I would buy a spare of each, just in case lol
