gas cap fuel guage

anyone know where I can find one for a gy or perhaps can suggest some alternate way to determine fuel level?

Just use milege and your trip meter, reset every time you get gas, it gets to be such a habit you will do it in the car too Remember you have a reserve lever on the fuel tank lever so if you run out you aren't stranded just switch to reserve and head to the station. The gy-5 has about .6 gal on reserve acording to the book.

Just open the cap and shake your tank/bike.

i always carry a cigarette lighter and never have a flashlight so I'll just flick the bic to see what the level is in the tank.

I've actually thought about some sort of dip stick method. I think I saw somewhere a person using a paint stirrer.

As you guys can tell I worry too much about stupid stuff.

OCD

I am...just trying to add some levity to the situation. I was curious about a gas cap gauge as I'd heard of or seen something similar for ATV's.

then, I saw a part for sale on rabbitscooters on their parts page for the gy-5

Fuel level unit for lf200gy

Was there a model of gy that had a guage?

Zap's Profile.

"Why do drugstores make the sick walk to the back of the store for prescriptions, while healthy people buy cigarettes up front?"

In Canada, drugstores are not allowed to sell ciggies. Hey maybe we're not so backwards after all. The down side is that now I have to go further now to get my smokes.

Unlikely you'll find anything that would work in a GY-5 tank. The tank is not shaped to allow the float assembly of a gauge-type cap to reach to the bottom of the tank.

i was thinking the same thing about the shape of the tank. i had a polaris trailboss 330 with a fuel gauge in the cap, was about 26 bucks at the dealership. i think it is too long for the type of tank that you have though. it was really noisy as well.

One tip if you do run out of gas is to lean the bike all the way over on the petcock side. The gas trap on the right side of the tank runs over to the petcock side giving you a few more miles. BTDT.

Keeping track of the miles is easiest.

When my friend ran out of gas we did the "lay it over on the left side" trick and he only got a mile or so. We were tempted to let him walk but let him drain a few pop bottles full of gas from the other bikes for only $5 per bottle.

Q

driller - I see you're from Kansas too. Us kschinariders need to hookup sometime and let our 10hp's rip!

The reserve on mine is only good for about .5-1 mile and the lay it over trick got me another mile to the gas station. I didn't have to walk at least.

I learned it from the a KLR650 forum. Our tanks are so small that I am sure it is only a few ounces, but it may be enough to get us to the station.

Hi Mick

I usually go 300 kms on a tank on my GY5. That is all road riding.

Cheers
Leo

My GY-2 gets about 200Km (road only). The tank is ~8L. To play it safe I usually refill at the 170Km mark.
