dead spot
i had rejetted to a 110 and turned the idle screw in 1 1/2 turns. when hot and idleing i can twist the throttle quick and and it sort of dies for a moment then revs up. where to tune to next?

thats why they make pumper carbs... to over come that dead spot when theres air
before it is able to pick up enough fuel for the new amount of air... the fuel has to be picked up from the fuel bowl that dosn't happen instantly.... got to remember yer useing the most basic type of carb.. idle screw.... take it yer mean air screw...

a new hawk. about 260 miles so far. it just started doing this or i just now noticed. put two washers on needle to raise it some when i rejetted. will try the idle mix screw up another half turn

less slide cut away or raise the needle. no way to cure entirely w/o a pumper

My advice would be to get it broke-in first. These things are super tight and change a lot in the first 4-500 miles. I don't' even bother modding mine until they're broke in.
FWIW, I've not had a pumper on any of my CB's and the throttle response has always been very crisp after it's set up properly. After break-in, if you can't get the stock carb dialed, there's always the Mikuni option. 30.00 is a cheap fix.

Having now gotten mine broken in, I will second the observation that they become almost an entirely different ride once you get some miles on em. Almost every reservation i've had on mine, resolved itself with miles, time, the aftermarket tach/speedo, and the appropriately sized AirHawk seat pad It's now the second most "out of the barn" bike I have, after my favored big iron Triumph, and I have a LOT of bikes. One other thought tho, make sure you keep the gas tank full during the colder months as water will condense in a less than full tank and drive you crazy when its starts bleeding into the fuel lines and causing all manner of burps and coughs..

seeratlas may be on to something cause i hadnt noticed it befor adn the tank is almost empty now. i am trying to see how many miles it will go till i have to switch to aux on the petcock.

If this is the PZ carb, the problem is most likely the pilot jet is too small. Raising the needle enriches from 1/4 throttle to 3/4 throttle. Pilot jet below 1/4 throttle. In my experience, you do the throttle cutaway after you've done everything else. Virtually all of these bikes will run and accelerate just fine with the right pilot jet, and the right main jet. Only the super fussy, like me, change the throttle cutaway. Sincerely, ARH

My TTR & Husaburg both stammer if I snap open the throttle while they are idleing..
never never notice it while riding them... I use the clutch for the same efect... bring the revs up use the clutch far more control.... ..
