Petcock / Fuel filter problems

It seems my bike (sunL) has a "fuel filter" that is made of plastic and screws into the petcock. Its a very unusual/stupid design. Anyway plastic filter part was cracked and leaking fuel, I tried to unscrew it and it shattered into a thousand pieces leaving the actual threaded part in the petcock. Its unusable now, as there is no way to bypass the filter part.
Has anyone had any luck replacing the filter? Or for that matter the petcock? I would just as soon take the hole pectock and run an inline filter. Not sure of the thread sizes though, and the local motorcycle place will NOT give you any help unless they have a model number so they can pull a part number. Any thoughts on this guys?

If it's similar to any of the others here on the board you may be able to find one of better quality (still Chinese though). I know mine are metal on both of the designs that I have. You may want to post a pic for others to compare.

The lifan tanks are metal. Bruce may be able to get you one.

The plastic ones seem to fail at the petcock area.

I pulled it off last night, Heres a better description. Top of Petcock is threaded male, Looks like 10 x 1mm. (10 being diameter of threads, and 1 being the threadpitch). This screws into a connecting bolt that is permanantly attacthed to a metal downspout coming out of the tank. The middle of the petcock is the actual knob that you turn. Just below the knob is the spout that you connect the fuel line to the carb with. Below this the petcock gets wider and it is threaded female. Harder to measure but looks to be around 23 or 24mm wide (I would swear its standard 1") and threadpitch looks to be 1. Whats broken was a bulbous plastic cap that screwed into this. Without this cap the fuel flow straight through the petccock. I hope this is a better description. If I could find another petcock that is threaded 10x1 male I would buy that and run an inline filter. But the local motorbike place wont let me look at any other petcocks to measure, they want a model # and all that. Not very helpful. Does anyone else know a petcock that will fit those descriptions or where to get a knew bulbouse cap thing for the current one? I appreciate the reply's.

Then this might help.

I think that the xr 80 and 100 look to be about the same too.

I have those in stock, it just matters if it's fine thread or a course thread.
