red2003, i am going to try your acceleration for 5-10 seconds and then cut it off technique to check the plug..
hopefully its looking good, otherwise i am going to try your mod, unless i can find a few people to go in on the jets.

i changed the plug, gapped it to a slightly bigger gap of .09mm and then did the test again, i noticed that it was greyish.. almost perfect. I adjusted the idle mix screw and got it to be about perfect. It now starts better, idles better and has no hesitation. I am happy with it in its current state of running.. even tho i think i need more power... (i rode my buddy's zxr1200r over the weekend and wow...)

Warm up engine and ride around for a bit to get to normal operating temp, pu tin a new plug gapped to its specs and then run the bike hard through the gears preferrable up an incline to put a load on the engine and in either 4th ( to lower your speed) or 5th gear if you dont mind running WOT at that speed) run WOT for 20-30 secs ( if you suspect you are running lean only run for 20 secs max) then simultaneously Kill the engine pull in the clutch and chop the throttle off. If you leave the throttle open a bit or do not kill, clutch and chop at the same time your plug reading can be useless. This is what I have done to set my Air / Idle mixtures. Today I'll be out doing it again because of my airbox mod |

I got into the carb this evening. Set the clip to the lowest setting (towards the point of the needle). Then I turned out the screw that I think is the air/fuel screw a 1/2 turn. It's upside down and had to turn it with a very small standard screwdriver and it by the exhaust. Does my vague description help?
Removed the air box and took it around the block. Didn't notice any difference. Should I be able to feel a difference or what? Thanks!! |

I never replaced mine. I'm still running the original. Still running lean but it has given me absolutely no problems.

No prob I found a fix and typed it out on the "I need a 108 main jet" thread. Bike pulls much nicer, and had a great ride today. Thanks for the reply. If you want a 112 main jet, I'll send you one. My treat. I have no use for it.
