New guy from Ohio
Traded another bike for a 06 Lifan Gy2. Engine runs fine, vibrates nicely, rear disc brake locks up after riding ten minutes or so, needs a rear rack, front rim needs straightened a bit, street tires need to come off, plastics are mostly cracked, and the chain needs replaced.
Should be a fun cheap project to keep me occupied over the winter if anyone has any spare parts or advice, please fire away Kurt Franz 1979 Yamaha dt 175 2008 Kawasaki klr 650 2004 Kawasaki kdx200 |

Welcome. Sounds like common issues.

Yes that appears to be so with the exception of the rear brake locking up. In all my years of owning bikes never had this issue - drum or disc. Understanding that there are a few different things that could cause this malady, what seems to be the common one on these odd little bikes? My initial suspect is that anti lock mechanism that I have never in my 49 years seen before.

Welcome; we are glad you joined us.
I suspect the brake fluid level is too high. After the brakes warm up from use, the fluid expands in the master cylinder. Check the brake fluid level, and remove some fluid if necessary.

Welcome.
You have successfully acquired many of the most common issues. Next on the list is the muffler falling off, the battery falling out, and the CDI going Tango Uniform. All easy fixes or preventable with reinforcement. The rear brake issue is also common. It happened to the GY I currently have. The brake fluid is likley overfilled as Spud suggests.

Check the engine mounting bolts; they might be loose and causing some extra vibration. You shouldn't have problems finding a rear rack or plastic for you bike. Is the rim bent, or is the wheel simply out of true? If you decide not to repair the wheel, spare wheels are readily available, both new, and used. You were wise to check our Free Classifieds Forum. I really like the reduced maintenance, long life, and overall lower cost of O-ring drive chains. I have received excellent service from the low-priced, KMC 428UO drive chains. http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=10597 http://tw200forum.com/forum/general-...g-chain-4.html

By the way, Kurt, you are in the company of several other KRL650 fans/owners on these forums.

Welcome Kurt!
X3 on the over-filled master cylinder reservoir. Now is a good time to simply flush out the goo for some quality DOT3. BTW, if there is an ABS device, dump it. I don't trust them. I'd love to see your DT175! Son of Weldangrind and I resurrected a '78 MX175 a few years ago.

Yes, I was also going to tell you to dump the "ABS" device, but I forgot.

Thanks for all of the responses/advice. I will post a few pics when I get a chance. Also, I think I will try the KMC 428UO drive chain that was recommended. I would imagine that a few links would need to be removed when running a small rear sprocket - as the one on my bike appears to have. I did not get around to counting the teeth, but I am certain it is in the 40ish range. Definitely not 56ish....
