Time for a new headlight bulb

My hi beam died on me. I see that the new Lifan scooters are coming with halogen lightbulbs instead of the normal ones like my GY5 has.

Any way I can slip one in mine?
If not, do you guys have a PN of a slightly brighter one I can pick up at the auto shop?

Thank you!

I swapped in a 55/65 watt halogen (for a snowmobile) it worked well but caused the grond wire to heat up. Adding a heavier wire would have helped, but I just pulled it and went back to the crummy stocker. I'd say as long as you don't go over 50 watts you'll be fine.

Did they pull out a picture book at the part store and try to match it that way? Or did they just look at it and say Nope sorry?

Look in the cross-reference parts thread for one from denniskirk. 2.99 plus shipping and you can get a 45w bulb. Fit vintage snowmobiles.

This is the bulb I used:

http://www.bulbman.com/index.php?mai...ducts_id=16132

I bought it at Wal Mart for $10. To wire it in I used the headlight connector from a Toyota truck (any sealed beam socket will work), spliced that to a 4 connector socket from my parts box (this one came off an old amplifier, but it's a standard connecter) which plugged right into the bike's headlight connector. The bulb's base is thin metal with three tabs, I had to bend it in two places, after that it was a snug fit. The ONLY mod to the bike itself was drilling three small holes in the rim where the stock bulb socket clips into the reflector. I used the holes to secure some spring clips to hold the new bulb in. I think it would have been ok, but needed an extra ground. A lower wattage bulb would have been just fine.

I ordered two so I would have a spare.

They also have them in 45w
http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produc...d=41101&mmyId=

This is a direct fit with no mods.
