Looking for a new QUIET muffler for KLR

I am looking for some advice on a muffler for my 2007 klr 650 that is quieter than the stock muffler, and lighter. I don't know if such a beast exists or not and hate to spend a bunch of $$$ on something that makes it louder. I have never believed in the "louder makes people look for you" principle I think it just makes them swivel their heads and still run me over. Besides my ears will thank me and it makes it easier to hear my own surroundings. I don't really care if I gain ANY hp just quiet it down, maybe make it less of a bass pitch, low pitch really irritates my ears and headaches.

Hate to say it, but I don't think there is such a muffler for the KLR. I believe the stocker is as quiet as you can get... Provided someone hasn't drilled out the baffle of course! My 08 is nice and quiet and I agree with you, the quieter the better!

I don't know of any after market mufflers that make the
bike quiter than the stock muffler..

The stock muffler for the KLR is the quietest you'll ever find. It is also the heaviest by an immense margin.

The quietest lightweight high performance pipe is an FMF Q4.

You may be able to add a DB Dawg to your stock muffler but I doubt any gains in quietness are possible.

I agree with the others; the stock muffler is always the quietest.

If you bought the bike used, the previous owner probably altered the muffler. If that's the case, I suggest you look for a used, stock muffler on eBay. You should be able to get a good deal on a barely used muffler from someone who has replaced the stock muffler with an aftermarket muffler.

No this muffler is stock, I am just a stealth nut, I read an answer to a similar question today on a klr website and their only advise was replace the engine with an electric

I suppose that would be significantly quieter

Thanks guys you answered my questions, I suppose I will stick with the stocker, it isn't that bad but we all want to tinker with things to make them just the way we wish they could be.

I'd like to put a new muffler on my KLR simply to decrease the heat. The stocker gets HOT. I did the frugle mod and it looks, sounds and flows better, but the heat!

If you can live with the looks a fiberglass wrap might help on the cheap. I don't recall heat being a big issue on my KLR's before though.

The header doesn't get that hot, it's the wood oven hanging off the rear they call a muffler.

I would expect you can wrap the mufler just the same, and/or insulate under the seat and sidepanel.

I don't remember heat being an issue either. The rear plastic was melted though.
