My 1996 XR250L was not nearly as long lived.

Thank you, Stew. This Yamaha engine is well noted for its durability. I'm also impressed with the small improvements Yamaha has continued to make to this engine over the last thirty years. Yamaha makes excellent motorcycles. I am pleased and fortunate my Zong employs such a well-built, faithful copy of this Yamaha engine.

Perhaps my "easy, commuter miles" have contributed to the Zong's longevity, Doc? :P

Some easy miles!

LOL!!!

That Zong earned every mile.

I think the 70+ MPH commuting on the San Francisco Bay Area freeways killed my XR. I don't remember how many miles it had but I think it was in the mid 20,000's.

It died of a cracked head probably from heat buildup at high running tempratures.

The earlier, Honda XR250L bikes had an oil cooler, which Honda later removed. All the Honda XR bikes run very hot without an oil cooler when ridden at high rpms for extended periods. :( This Yamaha engine is a tough little powerplant!

They stopped exporting them to the States because you have too many miles on your bike. Hard to get repeat sales if the bike never dies!

Thank you, Jim. Indeed, I do maintain my Zong well. However, unlike some Japanese bike owners have suggested, I don't do anything extraordinary to keep this bike running. My Zongshen 200GY-2 is well manufactured, and that's the primary reason it has performed so well for me.
