Fuel leak from gas tank post that petcock attachs to

Has anyone ever experienced a fuel leak from under the gas tank along the post that the petcock attachs to? It seems to be a slow seeping leak but over night there is a small puddle unger the bike and i can smell gas in my garage. Just wondering if something like JB weld will seal this up or any other suggestions?

Make sure you clean and dry the area really well. If you use JB weld it needs to be cured for at least 24 hours.

I would drain the tank then unbolt the petcock and put some silicone gasket maker over the o-ring them then bolt it back up and let dry over night.

Check to see if everything is tight, and the O-ring is in good condition.

I will try draining the tank and some JB weld at the base. It is not at the petcock connection but above that where the tube comes out of the gas tank itself. I have no idea why it would be leaking there, there is no actual conection just seems to be part of the tank itself. Unless it screws up into the tank somehow. I will tear it down tommorrow and see if it unscrews out of the tank.

Use JB Weld (or similar) as a last resort, since the o-ring is more likely to be the culprit, as Spud and Wild_Alaskan have indicated. If you do need to use an epoxy, JB Weld doesn't actually state that it is suitable for exposure to fuel, whereas Permatex Cold Weld does. I've used it with good results.

yes the metal part will unscrew out of the plastic tank if that is what you are talking about. I would NOT recommend using jb weld to reinstall it there is a fuel screen on the intake of the petcock that can become gummed up and the easiest way to clean it is to remove it, which wont easily happen if its permanently jb welded on.

i have used gasket maker on these when i couldn't find the proper replacement o-ring with good results. just put a layer right over the old o-ring.
