New tires for the ol' gy-5

Well it is time for some new tires for the bike and after extensive study I have found my choice. http://www.bikebandit.com/shinko-705-motorcycle-tire These are the shinko 705s I do very little off roading and was mainly looking for an economical price on a 70/30 or 80/20 tire. This seems to fit the bill and at the best price I could find at about $90 for both. While I am at it I am also getting a new helmet, the old one has done it's duty and I am replacing it with the new AFX-140 modular found here: http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/a...modular-helmet
couldn't pass up the deal at $99 and no shipping. Let me see those thoughts and reviews, and enjoy a safe ride.

I fixed your second link for you.

I haven't bought any DS tires yet, so I'm no help there. Member sucksqueezebangblow has a modular helmet, and he loves it. Don't know if it's the same brand you're looking at or not.

The thing that occurs to me with modular helmets is that the fulcrum points take the impact if you hit the pavement. I'd hate to think they would break off, leaving your face exposed. A one-piece full face has a lot more structure to it. Just my $0.02

I only ride in full face helmets. Shoei and Arai. DOT and SNELL.

AFAIK there are no SNELL modular helmets.

Helmets matter.

Got the tires mounted, they ride great, much smoother on the road and better grip. I also think they look better.

Fastdoc, I wear glasses and a full face is a royal pain for to put on and take off glasses. A modular seems better than a open face with this problem and as far as snell goes, they refuse to test modular helmets so what can be done. I chose a good quality modular with a high quality rating, besides I simply can't afford an Arai carbon graphite helmet.

The modular will be fine I'm sure. 8)

I like the tires! They look a lot like Avon Gripmasters. Those are a good 50/50 tire.

Hi

I ride with a flip front helmet for the same reason - glasses. Some flip fronts do pretty well in helmet efficacy testing (SHARP - a UK Helmet safety scheme http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/ ) - better than many full face ones.

So I would not worry if you got a good helmet.

I'm still using C858s on my GY-5 - but do a fair bit of off road - I think they are good tires.
