Zongshen turn signals not working

Well left rear worked off & on seemed to me the bulb was crap. So yesterday got me 4 new turn signals to replace all the stock ones. When I got them mounted & hooked up they would buzz n only light up a little & not really blink. Disconnected the rears & the fronts seem to work. Anyone know whats goin on? Did notice some corrosion on wire connectors for the rear turn signals.

When you say "the fronts seemed to work", what does that mean? Did the front signals flash properly when the rear signals were disconnected? What type of signals did you install? Can you show us a pic?

Yes they do blink without rear connected. They are made by BikeMaster & are not LED just regular single filament bulbs. Sorry no pics, I know everyone love's pics. They can be found @ motorcycle-superstore.com.

Kinda thought I would get more input than this. Thought maybe Spud would know right away what was goin on. Guess I'll just have to wait n see what comes up.

I would first clean the corrosion from the rear connectors. Also, as an experiment, I would see if two of your old turn signals will work in the rear. Perhaps your turn signal relay is starting to die. :?:

Corrosion cleaned, & hooked originals back up. Still doing same thing. So I am guessing It's the relay. Any way to know for sure & any suggestions where to get one.

Since you're not using LED signals, you can likely use an electronic flasher from Napa. I'm using one on my TW200, and it was around $7.00.

First, I'd test all the bulbs with a 12V, DC power source. If all the bulbs are good, I would follow Weld's suggestion and buy another flasher relay; you can a thermal flasher relay for less than $10 from any auto parts store. Just bring in your old flasher relay, and the clerk will help you select a suitable replacement.

Yes bulbs are good, so I guess I'll be headed to parts store after work. Guess I'll have to run home & get my relay. Knew I should of brought it with me today. Thanks guys I'll update you later if this corrects problem or not.

A new relay fixed problem sorta. All turn signals working except left rear. Seems to be a wire issue cause not getting any power at connection.

Remove the Zong's saddle and inspect the wiring harness running along the frame to the rear wiring nexus. Sometimes the Zong's saddle will rub the insulation off one of the wires. If the wires are in good shape leading to the rear wiring nexus, replace the bullet connectors leading to the troublesome turn signal. You can buy crimp bullet connectors at Radio Shack.

Inspected the wires from rear signals forward. Green wires , grounds are spliced together from factory, not very well. So I did them up with better connectors. Followed the wires further untill I got to the point where I needed to remove fuel tank. I decided to call it a night @ that point. Will most likely dig into it more tonight. Was thinkin might start @ front signals & work back cause it seems they are tied into the front & I'm guessin that connection is where my problem is.

If possible, always start with simple solutions. The bullet connectors on all the turn signals are pretty flimsy. Try using a jumper wire across the two connectors on the faulty turn signal, and see if the problem disappears.

It's also possible the troublesome turn signal is at fault. Try connecting another turn signal, and see if the problem disappears.
