Help - I need to have a duplicate key made for a Lifan

Does anyone know if a local wal-mart or hardware store can make a copy of the motorcylce key for a lifan?

Mine couldn't. They didn't carry that kind of blank. You could always call your's and ask.

I have had problems getting copies of yamaha keys. Try a locksmith they carry a better selection of blanks and can usually match it.

My yamaha key was actually a suzuki blank.

Cost will be a bit more, but the key will work.

Best bet is to go to your local bike shop. Honda blank might work?? You can match it up easy enough. I had to get one for a Yammi in the past and the blank was like $10.00 8O , but no one else had one so what ya gonna do???

I worked at a dealer as a parts ervice Mgr while going through college. I became a por at the key punches. If you find someone real good without a code for the punching you can get someone with a blank and puch you out a new key by sight on an existing key.

If you dont have the original to copy from Im afraid you in trouble and may need more than a key. Hopefully one of the dealer reps here have come across this already and have an answer for you.

OK, I just completed a little experiment and this should work for you.

I have an electric key cutting machine and I can usually play with a few blanks to find something to work. If you can find a place that has a machine and uses COLE blanks, get them to try a Chrysler "Y107" blank. It worked on the first try for me.

A Chrysler key in a Chinese bike ... go figure! 8O

I actually found a Ford key that worked on a Kawasaki once, so it pays to play with some blanks.

That might need to added to the cross-reference parts list. I fortunately have both keys and don't have a habit of losing them either.

Jim, that's actually a good question.

In my experience, most folks have lost both keys by the time they start looking for a new one. This, of course, requires me to replace the ignition switches with a new set of keys and costs about $30-$35 for the consumer. These instances are usually because of the kids forgetting where they put the keys to start with and about 80% of my sold units are kids rides, 110cc and under ATVs. As the Lifan bikes have the same key for the ignition as well as the tank cap, it would be a little expensive having to replace both just to get it running again, so I plan on keeping these blanks available to sell for extra copies for my customers as I move future bikes.

I have never been asked to make a key copy, so I have never thought about looking for blanks, but since I found one that will work, it may be more feasable for me to purchase the blanks locally without having to worry with A.L. to ship me some. These COLE blanks are inexpensive and are readily available in my area and I am sure that most hardware stores will carry them. You have my curiosity going, however, and I will make a point of asking about these in the morning. My machine was purchased many years ago as a hobby progressed, nothing illegal now, and is kept at my home, but it may find a new home in the morning. :wink:

I don't see a key number on my key. Is there a number for these bikes?

I will note that blank and go to the local hardware store to see if they can make a copy. Always nice to have another stored away.

Anyone know if the Lifan, Roketa, Vive, etc keys are all the same? My Roketa key is way bigger (longer) then any bike key I've ever had before. Does look like a Mopar key, actually.

Well, just found out that there are Lifan blanks available. They can be ordered in sets of 2, but they will cost about $8.00 + the cost of cutting them, so it would be up to the owner to decide what he/wants, but to me, using the COLE blanks that I found to work would cost much less. They may have a larger head than what you are use to, but it will work just as much.

I got a duplicate made from the locksmith for 3.00$ and and some change. So it wasn't to painful.
