Zong "bounce"

I recently re-acquired the Zong that I owned and was forced to sell last year. I posted, a few months after purchase, that there is a slight bounce to the bike. I took the wheels to a local mechanic that said they are out of round and there was no fixing them.

The bike now has ~2000 miles on it, and after not having it for a year, the bounce has gotten tremendously worse. Especially right about 40mph. I took the front wheel to a different shop and got it trued to near perfection but the bounce persists. When I spin the rear wheel on it's axle, it looks damn near perfect as is, so I would hate to spend the money truing it if it's already good.

My question is, what can be causing this bounce? I really can't enjoy the ride as is, so any ideas? Should I just bite the bullet and get the rear wheel trued, too?

Defective tire or tube. Don't worry you'll get it fixed. Replace the tire and tube and you'll be good to go. Also make sure the shocks are working well and not sticking. Make sure the bead sits evenly on the rim. You might get lucky removing the valve core and squeezing and pushing and bouncing and then reinflating. 8)

Welcome back to The Cult of The Zong, Brian!

I agree with FastDoc. If the wheels are true, your bouncing wheels are probably caused by either the inner tubes, or the tires. I suspect the tire beads are not seated properly on the rim. However, I also suggest you check your wheel bearings.
