I read that the CBR250 is actually a negative profit venture for Honda, with the hopes of getting new riders on board and establishing brand loyalty for future purchases. I don't know how true this is, but interesting to consider.

Egads! 8O A 2.5-gallon, fuel tank, with no appreciable reserve is bad enough. Please tell me the bike at least has a trip odometer! :?

If that's the case, the CBR250R represents an excellent value, indeed. I read Honda wished to enter the marketplace for single cylinder, low maintenance, high mileage motorcycles in Asia, and third world countries.

I believe it. They put a lot of R&D into it, new technology and materials. I think it's even made in Japan. The Ninja is outsourced and made in Malaysia or some other second-and-a-half world country.

Not that that's bad, I'm just saying.

Honda is a wise enough company to sell a high quality entry level product at a loss to earn brand loyalty and sell a more expensive machine in the future.

I agree with FastDoc. Besides the fuel injection, the CBR250R includes a lot of other new technology. I believe Honda has applied for 9 patents for the new technology incorporated in this motorcycle. It seems reasonable that this new, high-tech Honda should be priced higher than the Ninja 250R, which incorporates twenty-year-old technology.

What are you people smoking?
At that price, they'll be making loads of cash. In poorer countries, they are much cheaper. This bike is overpriced by at least 25%

I believe they are made in Thailand.

dude you have to also keep in mind, when you go buy one and pay that sticker price tag.. it also has a mark up for the dealer you are buying it from. so the cbr250r might 1000-1500 less when dealers buy it and then add their price mark up for reselling it..

I've never smoked anything. However, I might be tempted to try whatever you are smoking, Fly.

I believe the CRB250R is manufactured in Thailand, and India.

I also believe the Ninja 250R is manufactured in Thailand.

There is a lot more that goes into the cost of a machine than just the price of the raw materials and labor to assemble.

I couldn't find the original MSRP of the 1986 Ninja 250, but I think it was in the $3k range. Adjusted for inflation over the last 25 years, and I think the entry price for the CBR250 is pretty good.

On the track the Ninja will win hands down.

With a regular rider in the real world though the results would likely be a tie, or advantage to the CBR.

I agree. I have respected the Ninja 250R for quite a while; it's a great little motorcycle. However, I am beginning to gain more respect for the Honda CBR250R. I really like the fuel injection, high gas mileage, and lower maintenance intervals for the new Honda.

Nevertheless, if I were currently looking to buy a 250cc street bike, I would look for a good deal on a low-mileage, used, Ninja 250R. You can find a lot of great deals on used, Ninja, 250R motorcycles. It will probably be a while before an appreciable number of the new, Honda, CBR250R bikes start showing up for sale as used motorcycles.
