Hello from Delta B.C.

Hey I just joined up after being a lurker for a couple years. I have a 2007 Gio x31 250cc and a 2009 Gio x27 125cc. My brother also has a 2008 Gio x31 and my dad just got a Gio 110cc hummer quad. Thought I would join up and say hi as there seems to be a fair number of people from the lower mainland here.

I live in north delta!
I've been coming to this site for a couple years for info and advice on what to buy and mod etc.
so far I havn't had too many issues with any of my bikes, but last weekend I had my 250 out and went through a huge puddle and soaked her down, she died about a kilometer down the road and I couldn't get her started again.
I'm gonna have a look at it over the weekend, I have a feeling the voltage rectifier on the frame got soaked and shorted.

I'm sure you'll find the issue, might even start for you after it 'dries out'

Where've you been riding?

yeah I kinda wanna find the issue before it fixes itself so I know what I need to seal with silicone.
My parents have property up near chain lake, between princeton and summerland. So I go camping up there alot. There are alot of trails around there and the transcanada trail runs right behind thier property.

That sounds like a sweet place to ride. Can you take the motorbikes on the trans-canada trail? err.. legally?

Hmm thats a good question, I've always done it and so does everyone else. there are signs at the road intersections that say to watch out for motorcycles and snowmobiles so I would assume we are ok riding there.

I was curious about that too and did a lot of emailing, and the answers I got I think was it isn't outright banned but strongly frowned upon, I couldn't get a straight answer though, likely because the people I could contact on the matter were lobbying to ban bikes...

Taken from http://www.tctrail.ca/home.php :

"Thousands of people are taking to the Trail to walk, hike, cycle, ski, horseback ride, canoe and snowmobile." That tells me that quads and bikes can't be excluded.

It doesn't specifically say... When I was contacting them, there was a special case for the snow mobiles... There is a topic on here somewhere where I posted the emails pertaining to this.

Here's what I found:

Are ATV's and dirt bikes allowed on the Trans Canada Trail? The position of the Trans Canada Trail is that there are six preferred activities promoted for use on the trail - hiking, cycling, horseback riding, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and canoeing. However, since we do not own or operate any of the segments of trail which make up the Trans Canada Trail, we do not determine which activities are permitted on the various segments. The local body responsible for the trail segment determines which activities are permitted, depending on local by-laws, preferences, trail surfaces, etc., as well as on the needs and wants of the residents of the communities along the section. Please note that we do not endorse motorized activity on the Trail in the summer months but where there are no viable alternatives we reluctantly accept them. Since we do not own or operate trails we can either accept the uses that trail communities choose to accommodate or we can re-route the Trail elsewhere - sometimes we can and other times it is not possible.
It is important to note that in the more remote areas of the country, where there is a large land mass and sparse population, it is the motorized users who are both building and using trails. Where there is no non-motorized trail group that is building and using trails, we are often faced with the situation of the trail being motorized or not existing at all.

I found it at http://www.tctrail.ca/faq.php

That definetly sounds like a beauracratic write up if I ever saw one.

Kind of says nothing and everything all the same.

We 'appreciate' the motorized users upkeeping the trail, but we don't necessarily want them riding near populated areas.

I assume snowmobiles get the pass since less use in the winter, and far less likely to crash into Johnny on his mountainbike that way.
