My new DB-07a

I just got this about 2 weeks ago. i love it haha

Alright ive got an iridium plug in, exhaust from an older Kawasaki, it sounds so much better than the tin foil stock muffler. Its geared for highway and it cruises. But im looking to do more to get a little more performance, any tip/ideas?

Do you know which front/rear sprocket setup you have?

In that case you are currently geared as high as you can really go, likely too high for some off road use.

If your jetting is on the mark, there is little more you can do from a cost effective/practical point of view to increase performance.

Ride it into the ground and have a great time. :P

Is the intake side opened up any? Pod filter or hi-flow filter in the box? Airbox drilled out maybe?

I'm not exactly advising these mods, but if you have the exhaust flowing better, the intake could be opened to flow better as well.

Good looking bike! Welcome to the forum.

The best gearing combo on/off road comprimise with stock tires looks like 17/45. If you go with the larger off road tires I'd go with a 47-50 rear.

I would agree. The 42 is too tall for off-road and in my opinion almost too tall for street.

Others here have a lot more experience than myself, but I'm pretty sure it being aircooled has nothing to do with how much air your carb is able to intake. We are talking about the amount of air your filter/airbox will allow to pass into the carb.

An aircooled engine simply means it uses the air around it to cool, instead of liquid cooling w/ a radiator.

Since you have a different (assuming better flowing) exhaust, your engine should be capable of moving more air, however, if your air filter is restrictive, you're not really seeing all the gains made possible by your exhaust.

Think of it like a garden hose. A better flowing exhaust is similar to connecting a larger diameter hose to the end. It's bigger and allows more flow, but if the water has to pass through the smaller diameter hose first, you won't get any more water flowing out the larger diameter hose. It is restricted by the smaller hose at the faucet (or the intake, in the case of an engine).

But again, this assumes your new exhaust is better flowing than stock, and may also require rejetting the carb to actually make use of the increase in airflow w/ a little more fuel.

I'm pretty sure you can search and find a few people who have used pod filters on these bikes, or at the very least, people who have drilled extra holes in their airbox.

Hope that helps.

yeah i felt like a serious idiot when i said that about the air filter. I know the exhaust is much better than the stock. Im going to check my air filter tomorrow. I'm not sure how to go about redoing the carb/jet set-up..

This video should show you what you need if you want to change a jet.
