gy 5 removing shock spring - how??

Hi

does anyone know how to remove the standard shock spring? If so I may try transferring it to a bandit damper........

If you mean just removing the monoshock assembly, it isn't terribly difficult. Remove the seat, side cover, battery box, and air box. Use nylon straps, rope or chain to suspend the rear of the bike from the ceiling to get the bike's weight off the shock. Loosen the mounting bolts from the top and bottom of the monoshock, and it should come out. If you then want to go further and disassemble the monoshock to remove the spring itself, you need a coil spring compressor to tighten the spring and remove the tension from the monoshock before taking it apart. This topic has been discussed here before, so you might find some helpful info by doing a search if you haven't done so already.

Thanks gyjoe.

I meant spring removal - getting the shock off is easy but the shock does not have the usual collar arrangement to get the spring off - i.e. compress spring - remove collar - remove spring - it looks like the mount eye may unscrew... (I am not referring to pre-load adjustment)

Frog you are right about how to take apart the rear shock. Here is a break down.
