Tail light mod

Has anyone done a tail light mod? Maybe halogen? My light quit working and noticed one of the sodered wires came loose from the socket. Will have to cut the wires to get it out to repair it. If I'm going to do that I want to change it. Any help?

I put a 60 diode truck led taillight on my gy5

But on my gy6 I'm going to get one of these edge 2 taillights I think, http://www.wheelingcyclesupply.com/s...gory&cat_id=72 (there are other options on that page too)



One of the wires came off my taillight too but I was able to re-solder it without cutting anything.

That tail lamp looks similar to the one Forrest Green at www.Wheelingcyclesupply.com got for me!

Sorry about the wire tie whiskers that look like improperly routed wires, I have since trimmed them!

You could go with halogens for the indicators, but LEDs are just as good and draw less current from your magneto.

Yeah that's the same one, I found it on the site you gave me a link too... How do you like it, was the mounting bracket easy enough to fit on the gy5?


Zap straps are great aren't they, I've got them holding on my trunk mounting plate to my rear rack.

Veoh might have been having problems, I just viewed both vids by clicking the links in the post. :?:

The license plate bracket looks a little different, but the rest is identical.

Forrest did the initial mounting, and I have since made upgrades to the location of the rear turn lamps, and some electrical connections that needed addressed :wink:

I'll get some good close-ups of the fitment, so you can get ahead of the game.

Actually, the beam pattern is rotated 90 deg from horizontal, due to my mounting scheme. It'll do for now...It does attract the attention :twisted: :twisted:

I tried the tail light mod..I didnt like the Edge though I tried one, its too small, and will require some mods, my taillight and rear fender cracked in a droppage......I went with the stock model to replace, it works for my bike best, not most durable but its nice and big and it holds the turn signals too, only prob is the taillight is tied on with zip ties as the plastic was not enought to sustain heavy vibes and broke off at the bolts.my advice dont mod the taillight if there are only some pulled wires, just repair!

Yeah but an led will be brighter then a stock taillight, that's why I did mine....

True indeed, and the light itself on the Edge is awesome in fact I think the actual taillight could actually be fit with some drilling quite easily to the stock rear fender, IMO the DRC Edge ender and license plate holder were pretty flimsie and too small for my bike, would probably work nice on the more slender Jap bikes tail end though?

Good to hear you approve of the light output, I haven't ordered mine but will be soon... It did look bright in that video... I think it might look alright on my gy6, it looks like it might actually be bigger then my stock taillight anyways... I was planning on getting the edge 2 with universal mounting kit...

Still deciding what kind of signal lights I want, I liked the aftermarket ones that were on my cbr but I don't know what brand they were... Not sure yet if I want LED's or not.

If anyone has tried an HID lighting system please give me a pm. It's supposed to draw less power. I want more light but my bike can't afford higher wattage output. I don't want to hijack the thread. Even a quick PM would be great.
