Shifting Problem

I have a 2007 tomoto 200cc atv. The problem is this: The shifting lever by your left foot does not ever go back into the "neutral" position. It kinda just hangs down, even after you have shifted into a higher or lower gear. You actually have to pull the lever up into the "neutral" position and then shift it into a gear, and then it just falls back down. It hangs freely, with hardly any resistance at all. Any ideas what is going on here? Thanks for reading.
