Considering the Nighthawk style Hi Bird 250

I'm looking for a first bike. Mostly I've been looking for a used GZ250 or Honda Rebel just as something to ride 3 miles to work, but this bike caught my eye.

At $1250, I start to think how can I go wrong? But if it is going to be something I will continuously have to work on to keep running, I'd rather spend an extra $1k and buy the brand name.

Has anyone owned this bike, and what kinds of issues can I realistically expect with it?

For 3 miles you should end up with a good commuter bike. Like most of these bikes you need to do the proper setup and have alittle mechanical experience or willing to try.

I like the looks of it. Like was mentioned, just set it up properly and know how to maintain/service it.

Nuff said!

Do you do any highway riding? Wondering if it can comfortably maintain 65-70 over a fairly long (50 or so mile), distance.

if your looking for a windscreen, take a look a jc whitney online. with free shipping it would be hard to beat their price. i got a maier from them for dr650 and everything went smoothly. the 250 looks like a great deal, bigger motor then the 200 sport bike things without the additional 30 or 40 lbs of body work to drag around and remove to service the bike.

It will top out around 70, I wouldn't run it for 50mi like that. It is very comfortable around town 45-50mph :?

Two valves.

Honda and Suzuki have built a lot of heads like this over the years.

with all that exhaust flow area then one should not have to worry about an after market exhaust. just unplug the intake.
