We had a two hour power outage here last night. No big deal. I lit a 62 year old Coleman lantern and read a book. I was fine.

Checking out FB and Next Door(local SM page. Heard it called Twitter for old people) this AM and blew coffee out my nose at some of what was posted.

1. ComEd and the former speaker of the Illannoy house trying to get more money out of us. There is an actual scandal between the two, but...No.

2. The film crew caused it. An episode of the Amazon series 'Paper Girls' is being shot here but they use their own generators. So, again No.

3. Governor Pritzker and his commie policies caused it. OOOKKKAAAYYY but, um, no.

There was crap about the White House, China, and Putin, too.

Much of it was caps lock on and no punctuation.


Real cause. Pick up truck and power pole picked a fight and it was a draw. Sad part is that pole was just replaced last month after 50 years without incident.

I don’t do social media. My tolerance for stupidity is almost zero. It’s depressing to me that society is so stupid and people just can’t take care of minor inconveniences on their own.
1-2 days without power or water and most folks are in total chaos.

I've read quite a few articles about the the increase of conspiracy theories. Most say it boils down to that people feel that they aren't in control of their lives anymore and seek to find reasons for that. Even though there have been conspiracy theories for hundreds of years, it seems that people in the U.S. now have cornered the market.

How did we get here and how do we get out?

My opinion on how we got here. And it's just that, an opinion. Take it with a grain of salt.

Start with the repeal of an already weakened Fairness Doctrine in the mid eighties and go from there with the advent of the 24 hour news cycle. Throw in the for profit 'News and Entertainment Monopolies' that blur the lines between the two. 'Teaching To The Test' instead of teaching how to learn. Lessening of the importance of 'Who, What, When, Why, Where, and How' in journalism and replacing it with opinion as news.

This didn't happen overnight. It's taken almost 50 years.

As far as getting out, it's going to be tough to undo what we allowed to happen. Again, my opinion.

Breaking up the monopolies and instituting a new Fairness Doctrine with teeth would do well for a start. But because of lawyers and money, I doubt I will see it in my lifetime.

The chi-coms have had this planned since the 1960s. Infiltrate society slowly. Plant crazy ideas and put people in place to carry it out. Blackmail politicians and judges into passing outrageous laws. Slow and steady. A few setbacks but they are in it for the long haul. Create racial unrest that didn't exsist. Buy Hollywood and most of the sports athletes. Have the 7 or 8 super super rich convinced that they are greater than god and that they know how the peasants should live. Have them hire protesters to burn, loot, and murder. Tell corporations to donate to the protesters or face social media blacklisting. Use social media to dumb down and occupy people's minds. Send out a virus as a test to see how far people can be pushed. Make them wear mask and only let them go certain places. Then tell them you have a "shot" that will give them "some" of their freedom back. See how they react. Put plants in all social media to keep the narrative going. Censor out anyone trying to tell the truth. Get ready for the "next big thing" to take away a little more freedom. Not too far in the future, self driving cars will only take you where you are allowed to go. About half of the population will think all this is a good idea. Plan is almost complete.

Just my opinion, but you seem so far down your particular rabbit hole that I wonder if you can even see the sun. I hope you find a way out before harm comes to you and/or the ones you care about.
