Be Safe out there

We got some bad news over the weekend. A good high school friend of my daughter from high school was hit and killed on his motorcycle by a truck on Saturday. He was an exceptional outstanding young man. He was the only kid i would allow to date my daughter. Immediately after graduating he had joined the army which turned him into an even better young man. Him and my daughter kept in touch over the pass 3 years and every time he had leave he would come back home and visit. The last time he had visit he had came on his new HD 750. We even took a ride later that day. He was station at Fort Hood in Texas. He was coming back home this week to spend a few days with my daughter. His bags had arrived early on Saturday at his moms house as he was going to riding his bike here. Around 4:45pm Saturday he was riding on State Highway 195 near the City of Killeen Transfer Station, a 3/4 ton truck had stopped at a stop sign then proceeded to pull out in front of him where he was struck and killed.

I'm posting this to remind everyone to make your self as visible as possible because people don't pay attention to what they are doing on the road. Headlights on. Brighter LED bulbs will help over the dim standard OEM bulbs. When I get to a busy intersection I will flash my bright to get there attention. I've had a few times where I had vehicles attempting to pull out and stopped them when I flashed them.

Very sorry to hear this.. i think we've all had our close calls and in those sad cases as this have lead to the worst scenario possible. I've learned thru the years to ride defensively, always assume that car in the next lane doesn't see you and may turn into your lane, ride with hi-beams during the day, loud pipes do help (imo), try to enjoy the ride though while not being paranoid, but be safe nonetheless.. don't ride like a jacka@@ or try to extract 10/10 on that 100+ hp bike and we can hopefully continue our journey and post about the adventure..

I'm sorry about your friend. It all happens so fast.
-Motorcycle fatalities were up last year. DOT and industry experts don't really have an answer, except for lowering speed limits.
- be as visible as possible and hope your guardian angel is watching over you.

Motorcycles are dangerous. Same thing happened to my cousin a few years. Riding his big bike home from work after dark, a car full of drunk teens pulled out of a side street right in front of him. He was speeding like always.

That's awful.
I've got a friend that was in 2 pretty serious accidents on street bikes that broke bones and put him in the hospital. The last time was 3 years ago and now he refuses to ride on the street again. We go dirt bike riding together, but he wont get near a street bike now.

my condolences to you guys Jerry...

i have taken to being one of those a-holes that rides around with my brights on (twin 35w LED projectors) and you can tell the difference, people do see you... with the projectors i dont think they saw me near as much due to the indirect lighting which makes projectors nice at night, where you can see the road and not blind others, but during the day they are merely "running lights...

Thanks. The headlight on my Ghost are very bright and noticeable during the day compared to the X22R and Hawk. I have nowhere near the amount of people pulling out in front of me on the Ghost. On the X22R, even though i installed the brighter LED's i still had people pull out in front of me even on early morning when it was still dark. The Ghost has a nice an bright DLR along with the Bright LED. But there's always the one idiot playing around with there phone instead of driving. I just pull up beside them and blow the horn and give them that WTF look.

That sucks Jerry. Unfortunately, we've all heard this same story, time and again, over our lives as riders. I can say this for a fact, when the cell phone was introduced, I immediately noticed a difference. It was like suddenly everyone became blind and stupid.

One of the only saving graces on the market are the vehicles equipped with the electronics to sense and avoid collision with other vehicles.. i wish that technology was rolled out when cell phones hit the market back in the day, would have saved countless lives

the only people that i still have the issues with are usually the large trucks (dumpster and garbage trucks) they wil pull right out in front of you no matter what, and i have a transfer station on my way to work, they pull out, do 25max (in a 55 zone) and then flip the blinker on to turn left at the first crossroads... if you know you were cutting off to the left after you pull out in a truck that is not very quick to accelerate either, would you pull out right in front of a whole line of traffic or a bike? they do all the time... saturday i about locked the front tire in an evasive maneuver (both front and rear brakes needed to be applied HARD) because of one of these idiots... i am about to start wearing my gopro when i ride and submit plates to the police, and try to get the faces of the drivers.... they do it regardless of a bike, car, F350, you name it... it causes VERY unsafe conditions for any drivers around them...

She's taking it pretty hard. She was looking forward to seeing him. With the Covid BS it's been over a year since she seen him.
